I'm a bit late on saying this but a couple of opening sequences I highly recommend observing are the openings to Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden. Both of them have a minimalistic approach to introducing the characters in the game while managing to stay hip and engaging. I also like the mannerisms the characters were given in the Golden intro to give you a brief idea of what kind of person they are. Even though I like the original intro better, both of them have similar styles worth looking into - for research!
