Story Idea: Side Hustle

There’s a powerful alien in space who believes there is nothing for him anymore. He’s so powerful and influential there is nothing that poses a challenge for him or gives him any entertainment. He gets the idea to create a challenge for him. Making special transformation items that give the users some of his own powers, he decides to place them on earth as a test subject. He sends one of his men down to deliver the items as well as act as a “destined mentor” to them. His original targets to use the items were a group of teenagers who he assumed would be eager but thoughtless with their new powers. Unfortunately, a mistake placed the transformation items in the hands of a group of thirty-something friends. The group is much more thoughtful but less motivated than the planned teenagers, and constantly caused unforeseen problems for the alien king. The thirty-somethings have jobs they have to do along with their new “destined roles” which often get in the way of planned battles. The alien king is annoyed, especially when some of his own men start switching sides. The group has no idea their “mortal enemy” is the progenitor of their powers and new supposed to fate, and they actively talk about how they can get rid of it.
