Shifter Class - Beta Version!

Hey all!

Been silent for a bit as I've been working on an update for my next original class - The Shifter!

The premise of this class is simple - "What if Wild Shape had a class built around it?"

The shapeshifter/beastman archetype has always been a favorite of mine in media, but in 5e, I feel like the Druid class has too much of its power tied up in full progression spellcasting to truly explore the shapeshifter archetype - thus the Shifter was born!

If you remember the preview of this class from last time I posted it A LOT has changed. Most notably, this version of the class now includes over 50 NEW BEASTS! One of the major problems I had with this concept was how boring many of the official Beast stat blocks are, so I spent the last month or so reworking/replacing nearly every official Beast stat block with something I hope is at least more interesting.

The Beast stat blocks included here are Incomplete, as I only wanted to worry about the parts a Shifter would need access to. Next step will be to figure out what a "complete" version of these Beasts looks like and calculate their new Challenge Ratings.

I do not recommend allowing your Druids (especially Moon) to use these Beasts yet!

As always, I want to know what you think of the class and the Beast Shapes! Are there any major Beasts that are missing (and in this power range?) Let me know in the comments.

Looks good. However, please think about some 'action management'. Your classes are outstanding, due to other option for classes to use during their turn (like your alternate Rogue). Class is full of flavor and sounds good! If you need some assistance feel free to reach out to me.

as someone who is playing a dinosaur druid pretty soon, I was hopeful that this might be an option for me so it's a shame you had to cut the dinosaurs. hopefully a complete version can see them put back in!

So this is moreso a general question/idea rather than anything Shifter related, but have you considered the idea of magic items to boost Exploit save DCs for various classes to match the ones from Tasha's that boost spell save DCs? I was making some NPCs and realised the Martial DCs were lagging behind Caster DCs due to magic items despite being the same formula (they're a decent level, hence why they're getting magic items).

I’m curious, why add in the text about attacks having advantage when the creature is prone throughout the stat blocks? Doesn’t prone already confer advantage?

I like the beast type categorization and how it lines up with subclasses. It’s very flavorful and I can already imagine an Avian and Vermin subclass. Was there a reason Dinosaurs were removed/not included in the Beta version?

Nope, to be totally honest I thought hide armor was light. I'll make sure to update it!

So, I took a quick look, at 1st level the shifter receives proficiency in light armor but not in medium or heavy. But in the equipment it receives hide armor, what is medium armor and so can't be used properly. Is it intended?

Huh, so will this be more of the Druid's counterpart in focusing more on Wild Shapes while also not eliminating Wild Shapes from the future Alt. Druid? I.e., will both still use Wild Shape, just with the Alt. Druid not focusing on it as much and the Shifter going all in?
