I'm a baby Engene, so looking forward to experiencing more Enhypen with you. I really enjoyed I-Land, even though I already knew who made it and who didn't.

This episode really upset me, and I have watched ILand more times than I can count. They way K and others talk about Heeseung in such a derogatory manner but won’t talk to him directly except for K to tell Heeseung that K is so much better than Heeseung. K is the oldest trainee and really manipulated everyone. Especially when he said that they don’t need to vote and that they could just put Ni-ki as center. Whenever K gets really manipulative, he pretends to be really sweet and talks baby talk. The members voted Heeseung as leader and if they don’t like something talk about it with the leader, instead of denigrating him behind his back. I think Ni-ki became a pawn of K’s, which is understandable since both are from Japan and K is 8 years older than Ni-ki. I respect Jay, Sunghoon, Jungwon, Daniel and Heeseung in this episode. Heeseung gave up his practice time to help the slower learners and the others came across has ungrateful gossips.

This was 1 of 2 most memorable episodes from first watch (the second isn’t for a while yet). I had some very strong impressions from this episode. I watched this shortly after discovering Enhypen. Very similar to you in still even trying to know the names and definitely did not have a bias yet. This episode showed me 2 things. *note: don’t read on if you don’t know who the final members are. I’m not spoiling show details. Absolutely not, but almost 4 years into their career, if you don’t know the members yet, skip this 🙂:
1) this episode make me decide bias was between Jake and Jay for basically the same reason. Both showed a very strong willpower to defeat the odds and shine. Jay by refusing to give up even after being humiliated (perceived), defeated and frustrated. But even after saying he was giving up, the essence of who he is shown through to say, no, I don’t give up. This is what I’ve dedicated my life to. I will not be stopped by my own self.
And Jake because of the scene where he and Youngbin were talking alone and Youngbin was complaining about how hard it is (fair, for those two it was the hardest) and Jake’s response was, “I think we should practice more. I believe we can do this.” Soon after doing the best job of anyone per Ni-Ki’s opinion. Again, work hard, give everything, refuse to quit.
2nd major impression: Youngbin isn’t making the team and should strongly reconsider his dream of being an idol. I’m not against someone having a hard time. But this young man was specifically trying to be an IDOL. If anyone has been around the idol world for at least a month, they know it’s only for the very mentally tough. And what he was whining over in particular really made me upset. He was whining over having to dance in front of a small group of people. SIR, do you know what an idol’s job is?!? If you can’t handle a small group of people whose sole purpose in critique is to help you improve and ultimately join an idol team, then you can’t handle being an idol with the fan culture that will eat you alive. It still irks me after what’s probably the 20+ time I’ve seen it. More on him later.
As for Heeseung. Respectfully I am going to disagree. He was voted leader. The voted center is the voted leader. There has to be a leader or nothing will get done, and that is the culture here. Also, other than changing the choreo (I’ll give you that, but Rain would have cut that real quick at eval), in my opinion, he did nothing wrong. I’ve already made my opinion clear about people complaining about having to do what is literally their job 😂. So no, I don’t blame him for making the team be evaluated, I blame the ones complaining about. They are not ready for the life they think they’ve chosen. Daniel’s complaint about him only hanging out with “popular people”, that might be worth bringing up, but was not shown in the show, so hard to tell.
Anyhoo, this is far too long. Have a wonderful week 😁.
