Unboxing August 2017

Sorry about the weird thumbnail, it grabbed the oddest single frame out of my video.  I haven't uploaded the custom thumbnail yet.

I am not going to release this until tomorrow sometime.  I wanted to make sure everyone here thought I tactfully addressed the issue with unwanted donations.   So let me know what you think!

Yes, you can send me an email to dfwgreencars@gmail.com and tell me what you want and I can set it up for you. However, I've already sold out on a bunch of designs, so you might want to wait until the next batch comes in two weeks from now.. plus I have a new SID chip design that I'll be featuring.

Gutted! I'd love to fit in a Large but need Extra Fat to the UK. Any way of doing this 'manually'

In theory yes. In practice, not so much. My website doesn't calculate international shipping correctly for anything over 8 oz. so if somebody orders a small, medium, or large then I can ship. Anything larger and I have to do it manually case-by-case.

The 8-Bit Guy

Are you able to ship the t-shirts outside of the US?

Glen Rea

Like others have said, I think you handled the issue of unwanted donations very tactfully. Edit: Since you've been having to turn down so many donations, do you think you'll have enough content in the future to do these unboxing videos on a monthly basis? There's only so much stuff you can take in if you don't have a place for it, after all :)

Tyler Compton

I had it in all sizes originally (small through 2XL) but most have sold out. I do plan to re-order all of the sizes including some 3XL this time. Just give it a few weeks.

The 8-Bit Guy

I would love to see the 6502 shirt available in more sizes.

I think it has to do with more people not knowing where to recycle, and they feel that everything old is worth something. They don't want to throw it away because they feel like somebody could use it AKA hoarding. you handle you handle it very well.

I think you did your best to dissuade people from sending unwanted items. However, just like in customer service, people will not read or listen to instructions. So you'll have to continue to push back against the tide of junk and not feel bad when it winds up in the trash. Remember than the only people you might offend are those who won't listen. I deal with this everyday in mail order customer service.

John Duncan

Well, I've tried really hard not to end up with duplicates, and usually if I do on rare occasion I will trade it with a local collector.

The 8-Bit Guy

I know you are joking, but I seriously get offered a lot of junk like that, and some of it gets sent to me anyway... :-(

The 8-Bit Guy

Can I send you my box of old VGA cables? j/k j/k

Thomas Fuchs

On running out of space: if you have duplicate items, or items you don't want, perhaps some could be donated to mueums? Alternatively, perhaps you could sell them but donate the proceeds.

Yes, it is really true. I am currently declining about 99% of offers. The vast majority of things people are offering me now I already have, don't have room, or simply don't want.

The 8-Bit Guy

Ordered a t-shirt in an instant. Great idea 👍

I think you did a great job of explaining what's going on with donations piling up and the frustration with being sent items you don't want. Concise and easily understood. Good job shifting gears to those awesome t-shirts too - I'm sure I'll pick one up soon :) a couple notes on the items unboxed: 4:23 - Atari 2600 did have a keypad accessory and compatible games came with a card to slide in over the top. It wasn't on the main controller like these but it did exist :) 7:27 - each of those labeled jacks is likely for individual audio outputs so the different sounds can be mixed with an external audio mixer. It could likely be controlled by external pads via MIDI though, using something like the Alesis ControlPAD

Peter Metzger

Those T-Shirts are awesome and I will be ordering one. BTW, I think you dealt with the donation issue really well. There was no easy way but you had to say something. Nice one.

Ralph Little

I think you handled it very well, hopefully people stop sending you crap!

Oh and +1 for the shirts, 10/10 would buy :) Will you ship these to Canada?

I think it may have been rude to give exemples of actuals crappy donation, since you said they are / are probably childrens donation, but I get why it was needed. You were very honest with what you do with the donation. Just cause I'm curious, is it true that you refuse 99% ish of the donations? Or did you amplified the truth to discourage people from sending you garbage?
