Commodore PET repair and restoration

This is another one that took longer than expected. Hope you enjoy!  It will go live later today when I'm done with the thumbnail and closed captioning.

Fantastic video! I was literally on the edge of my seat with the keyboard fix. The explanation of how they saved IO ports was particulatly fascinating. I was almost disappointed in how simple the monitor fix was!

Some of my earliest computing memories are programming BASIC on the pet.

Houston was hit pretty bad. I know a few people who had to go to shelters, but they're all fine at the moment.

There seems to be a less expensive competitor to the keypad repair kit you used available on Amazon: "Keypad Fix" is selling for $13 and it has a better customer rating too. That said, this stuff looks exactly like the conductive "ink" I've seen from a conductive ink pen. I wonder if one of those could be used for this task.

That poor space bar! A+ video - thank you so much for creating this.

I'm in the Dallas area and to be honest, if I hadn't seen it in the news, I wouldn't even know there was bad weather in Texas.

Not that I ever worked on the Commodore Pet systems, Basic trouble shooting practices are always appreciated. I learned those in the Army's C.O.B.E.T. (common basic electronics training, circa 1974).

DAVID this is an especially great video thanks so much for making it!! i really like when they turn into REAL projects, this is the actual nature of hobby projects. the scope creep is a reality that is fun fight against. I've really never ever seen inside a PET frankly so i am very into this whole thing. This sort of tear down fix up video is exactly the kind of thing i hope you make the most when i see the Patreon money come out of my account every month :)

No need to apologize for how long these videos take...the quality is excellent. Worth the wait!

Last he reported, his area wasn't impacted nearly to the degree that other areas closer to the Gulf were. Hopefully that remains the case.

These videos sometimes get a little tense to see if the problem can be solved or not. Since this is true reality and not some scripted TV show, things don't always pan out. Great to see that the keyboard is working again. 👍

Great video -- as always! Looking forward to the next video on the PET

Love the way that you diagnose and solve the problems that crop up in fixing these old machines.

Hey, David! How are you holding up? I heard that a terrible hurricane hit Texas and the only one I know live there is you so I immediately thought how you are doing.
