Little update for May
Added 2017-05-07 16:49:59 +0000 UTCSo just a heads up about what has been going on for a few projects:
8-Bit Keys - I know it seems like I've abandoned the channel, but I haven't. The problem is I've got a lot of projects piled up all over my workspace both on my office desk and on my workbench in the studio for these 8-Bit Guy videos and I just have nowhere to film anything right now. So I'm rushing the best I can to finish up some of these projects so that in a week or two I can start working on some music stuff again.
Planet X2 - I've reached a critical stage with the game. But I'm totally undecided on what to do. In order to develop any further I need to start the background A.I. code. This is necessary not just for the enemy units but for the player units as well. That way, for example, when I tell a builder to go build me a factory, it can go off and do that on its own.
The trouble is, I had decided this was the point at which I would start the kickstarter. But now I'm debating as to whether or not I want to do that. There hasn't been as much interest in the game as I hoped there would be. In fact, I've had virtually no questions, zero submissions of artwork or custom maps. Not that I need these things, but I thought that would be a good judge of the interest in the game.
The main benefit or me doing a kickstarter would be to judge if there is enough interest to complete the game with all of the features I imagined. But I can't decide what sort of goal I should put there. I would imagine 50% of the money would go to the box, manuals, media, etc. But, obviously I want to make some profit off of it as well. Otherwise, I'm better off spending all of my time making videos instead. So the dilemma is this: If I set the goal low, then I might reach the goal. But then I may not really feel like finishing the game (yet, I would have to because I promised). If I set the goal too high, I may not reach the goal.
So, I would really appreciate some feedback on this. What should I do?
Upcoming videos - So, I am having trouble with part-3 of the LCD video. I got it partially working on the cartridge port, but not fully. To be honest, I'm sick of this project now that I've been working on it for weeks. I really need to move on to some of these other projects I have stacking up. Some of those are:
-Overview of the entire line of Laser portable computers
-Restoration of an Osborne 1 computer
-Review of the Tyco Kid's video camera from the 1990s
-Repair of my dead Commodore 64
-Speech synthesizer cartridges
All of the above videos are in some state of being filmed. Not sure which one will go center stage when I'm done with the LCD... any suggestions which you'd like to see first?
