Playing Ben Heck's Atari Junk Keyboard

So Ben Heck sent this to me after building it on his show, but not being able to actually tune it or play anything.  So I took a shot at it.

Great Episode!!, collaborations are the best, I saw the junk keyboard many parts episode and it took long time to be builded so I understand Ben Heck!. It's a shame that it failed in the end, It would be nice to hear something in the future.

This thing looks more like the 90s than actual keyboards from the 90s do. It's awesome - even if it didn't work for very long.

Haha, didn't know you guys were working on this. Well, weird Ben didn't mention this, but what you guys experienced with the unstability is exactly what really old analogue synths do. Without complex control circuitry and the quartz crystal timers etc, these things go chaotic due to heat fluctuations etc. And in conjunction with shipping and not securing the internal boards, yeah... Anyway, great stuff! We love it. Not sure if I'll be able to make a remix of this tune though...or maybe challenge accepted...? 😜

Very cool! :)

Very cool! Thanks for recording this. I watched the original Ben Heck episode and was glad to see it pop up again on your channel. I understand you have a ton of other projects, but it would be fun to see you debug / improve on the design some time.

Oh sure. I found it very interesting. And I do love proof of concept stuff.

Yeah.. it doesn't sound as good as most toy keyboards.. but the idea was the proof-of-concept.

On one hand, I think it's awesome that you were able to get it to work and play it. I'm not in love with the sound. To me it sounds like bagpipes. But it was interesting and entertaining.

Lorin Millsap

Yes! I love collaborations. :D
