How old school video digitizers worked

As usual, still working on closed captions and thumbnail. But here it is!

How old school video digitizers worked

I have a nasty cold right now too, hope you feel better.

Dark Azial

Reminds me of my friend in school who had to pause back to the future on vhs to digitize it on his atari st

I mean that literally, e.g. right at the start, around 0:11. Perhaps it's the shirt?

Well, I guess I have no choice but to slow down now as I have a cold... I can't do any video or audio recording like this..

The 8-Bit Guy

When you say dark, do you mean in the literally sense or in the psychology sense? In either case, can you point to a time section that you think is dark so I can have a look?

The 8-Bit Guy

Nice video! It reminded me that I have one of those handheld scanners somewhere... BTW: I found this video to be a little bit dark at times? Am I the only one?

I just starting to realize how much prolific you are now that you are full time, don't burn yourself too quick, I love your content :)

I love the increase in video drops. This is a fantastic change, Your videos are far from overwhelming or annoying. Keep it up, it helps you with the Youtube algorithm and spreads the channel. Long videos that are frequently uploaded definitely get you pushed to the front.

I remember those.. I hope to show some Amiga stuff eventually. I don't have much, just an A500 and A1000. No neat peripherals like that, though.

Great video!!

Love the old saloon piano music haha

I love this video !!!

Floyd-Steinburg error-diffusion dithering allows for nearly miraculous levels of performance with a ridiculously tiny palette. This algorithm is why the early Mac looked so good with only black and white. I made a bunch of examples of error diffusion for Wikipedia's list of color palettes a few years ago.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monochrome_and_RGB_palettes#Monochrome_.281-bit.29 If ComputerEyes were rewritten to do error diffusion, the images likely would look much better.

Great video, what would have been a practical application for that type of capture seing that the quality is very basic?

JF Caron

That was awesome. I remember drooling over some of the hardware in the CMD catalog. They made a video digitizer that could capture video, but only a couple seconds worth. I obviously never had one, but I would have been a neat novelty.

Overload us! I find all your videos fascinating. I love learning about this old tech that I missed.
