Just a little update for August

Since it has been a couple of weeks since I uploaded anything,  I thought I'd give a little update on what has been going on.  First off, my wife decided we were going to replace our flooring in the house by ourselves.. well, that's turned into a multi-week project in and of itself, taking way more time than I originally thought.  So my house has been a disaster and we've even had furniture and junk crammed in my studio room.  So that's really put a damper on any video production.  Good news is that we're about 95% done as of today and should be finished in the next few days.

Despite the flooring, I have been working on the PowerMcc G5 episode the last 2 weeks since I have it setup in my office room, but I also ran into several roadblocks on this.   For example, I wasted several days trying to get some form of Linux to install, but eventually gave up.  That was going to be a big part of the episode, but now it is cut out.  There were several other scenes I wanted to film but couldn't for one reason or another.  So I think what was originally a 20 minute episode will now probably end up being closer to 6 minutes.  I'm about 80% done filming it, but I haven't even started editing yet.  So I would imagine it will be another week before it is online.

And I also have just run into a bit of "writers block" trying to figure out what to even talk about on this thing.    And I learned a valuable lesson.  Most of the time I make videos about stuff I'm passionate and knowledgable about.  This video was done because so many people requested it, even though I really had no enthusiasm about this computer.  I think it's simply another case of trying to make everyone happy. I think that will be reflected in the quality of the video, unfortunately.  As such, in the future I'll be sure to stick with projects that I'm enthusiastic about.  And fortunately, I have a long list of those to make.

I've bought quite a few vintage electronics items with my Patreon money that I'm going to be doing episodes about, although 75% of those items are for 8-Bit Keys.  I guess I have so many things lined up for The 8-Bit Guy that I don't need to buy very much for it right now.   They aren't all keyboards either.  For example, I got a really neat multi-track recorder that uses standard audio cassettes.  So I'm going to show how multi-track music was done at home in the 1980's.   I also bought various vintage electronic items to restore, since people do love restoration videos and I like making them!

Comments

I didn't see my last comment go through, so I'll try again. Apologies if this is a duplicate: I think it's fine you only want to make videos on things you're interested in. If there is a topic that is highly-requested that you don't want to present on, then I suggest you let everyone know. You could say in a video or mention in a post something along the lines of: "I have been getting a lot of requests to cover so-and-so topic, and I'd do a video on it, but I am not really passionate about it. Due to my lack of interest, I'd rather not make a video because it probably wouldn't be of a high-enough quality to satisfy my standards." This way, people can appreciate you 1) acknowledging their requests and 2) being honest with them.

Firstly there is a german saying "Allen Menschen recht getan, ist eine Kunst die niemand kann." Which means, that you will never be able to satisfy the wishes (or favors) of everybody else. So, please focus on what you love to do and we will be happy if you share this with us. Secondly thanks for the update and good, good luck to finish your work at home and hopefully it will please Mrs 8-Bit Guy :)
