Update on videos
Added 2016-07-11 20:28:42 +0000 UTCOK, so I just thought I've give you guys a little update. I was out of town last week for a funeral so I didn't get a whole lot accomplished. I'm back to work on "how old school floppy drives worked." After some of the backlash on the tape drive episode, I went back to the drawing board. I re-wrote parts of the script and I'm reducing the number of minutes that the guest stars are on screen, as well as the number of movie clips. The focus for this episode will be more on the technology itself and how it worked and less on the experience of using them. I'm expecting to have this finished this weekend.
In case anyone is interested, here are the episodes I have planned down the road, although they may not appear in this order:
- An episode about the movie WarGames where I take a look at the technology and what parts of the movie were fact and fiction.
- An episode about artificial intelligence and how it has been portrayed over the decades and how I think it could actually be done, and may already have been done in secret.
- And episode about how old-school modems worked and how people used to get "online" before the internet.
- How to pick your first retro computer for those wanting to get started in the hobby.
And for 8-Bit Keys, here is what you can expect to see over the next few weeks:
- Casio "SuperDrums" keyboards, and how they worked.
- A custom song I'm developing on a Casio MT-500
- How to pick a retro keyboard for somebody wanting to get started.
So that's what I've got cooking up over the next 2-3 months for both channels. There may be an occasional surprise episode if something comes up in the meantime, but that's the current plan.

Love the list!

2016-07-30 22:01:07 +0000 UTCI'm really looking forward to one on floppy disks! I don't get the backlash on the tape drive episode - maybe I would have enjoyed more technical detail but the experience of using it is also important otherwise there's no real context to the technical aspects! Anyway, keep it up, David :-)
