OP Sister Chapter 478: Their Journey Together

Listen While Reading: 67. Moon over the Rain
-----

“The heavens, in that moment, interrupted our battle. Without realizing it, our blows could have brought this world to an end. We were too strong—so strong that the world might have been destroyed if we had gone all-out. The Heavenly Will stopped not only him but also me, deeming us dangerous. I felt utterly shocked; destiny had abandoned me, and I was now seen as a monster, just as he was—a danger to this world.”

And then, between the two of them, the heavens parted, revealing a single radiant light with no form or shape, shining brightly with countless sunrays surrounding it.

Was this how the Heavenly Will appeared to them?

“And yet, the Heavenly Will did not punish us as I had expected. Bound by chains that stopped us from fighting one another, the Heavenly Will instead gave us a simple task: to live together for a hundred years, to travel the world together, to exchange experiences, and to talk about our pasts—to understand one another not through our fists, but through our words.”

“And that was the moment our lives changed forever.”

Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as people gasped. The images changed, displaying countless fantastic sights—the many places they journeyed together, the landscapes they traversed.

The people they met, the experiences they shared, and how they opened up about their pasts with one another… The Heavenly Empress, always eager to learn more about him, ultimately succeeded in making him open his heart.

“And despite the rough start, I can say those hundred years were the best of my life. The Heavenly Will was right; that was all we needed. We simply had to talk, to understand one another without our factions pressuring us to fight for them. We learned so much through our journey. We visited oceans, deserts, jungles, and forests; we climbed mountains and spent nights eating the game we hunted while sharing stories of our pasts.”

“He was reserved, and back then, he hated me. He didn’t even want to see my face or hear my voice. But in the end, he opened up to me. He slowly grew to accept me by his side, and I did the same. I learned about his tragic past, the things he endured, the people he lost. With each revelation, I understood that he, too, was someone I had to save.”

“Because, as you can see, he was perhaps this world’s greatest villain, but he was also among those who suffered the most. He lost his precious family at a very young age. He was discriminated against, hated, persecuted, tortured, and nearly killed countless times because of his tribe and their reputation. He had to fight tooth and nail for survival. I’m not saying what he did was justified, but I came to understand why he did it.”

“And… even if you hate me for admitting it, I felt compassion for him. I pitied his soul, and I wanted to save him because he represented all those I had always strived to save, to give a new life, a new future. It infuriated me that I hadn’t found him earlier in his life. If only our paths had crossed sooner, I could have stopped him from becoming what he became. I could have saved him.”

“And yet, I suppose I did help him, just as he helped me no longer feel lonely or hollow inside. His nature and personality showed me I was living life incorrectly, sacrificing my own happiness for everyone else’s. That was what was slowly driving me toward insanity. Despite our differences, he pulled me from the darkness festering in my heart and showed me that life could be simpler, that I could live for myself, and that I could try to be happy without always worrying about everyone else.”

The moving paintings, crafted from her own Ki, shifted to show the two of them talking by a bonfire, eating meat skewers. The scene looked warm; their experiences and words helped them connect despite their differences. They saw each other for who they truly were.

“And that’s where we fell in love with one another. It happened spontaneously, yet it felt destined. We complemented each other so perfectly it was almost unreal, incomprehensible. We rejected these feelings for years, but ultimately, we gave in to them. From our love, our son was born, and our world—our lives—changed forever.”

The paintings revealed a large white egg, which hatched into a precious chick with both black and white feathers, a hybrid of two nearly extinct tribes of Bird People: the White Cranes and the Red-Eyed Black Crows.

The Heavenly Demon and the Heavenly Empress were likely the last of their kind, their endlings. Their love gave birth to a union of both species—a boy who didn’t quite resemble either but was a unique blend of the two.

“Mom…” Song shed a few tears as he watched the images, realizing how deeply his mother loved him.

He was now, quite literally, revealing the truth to everyone. Not everyone knew Song was their son; most in the crowd likely had no idea.

Naturally, the revelation stunned them.

But his mother continued.

“He was born with my white feathers and his father’s black feathers, with one golden eye and one red eye, a scruffy crown of feathers, and only a single wing. At first, we thought our son was born with flaws, that our love had produced a mixed-species child—a taboo in much of the world. But we quickly realized that it was wrong. We loved our son for who he was, despite his frail physique and inability to fly. He was our treasure, perfect just as he was.”

“Wishing for him to have great health and strength, we named him Song Weisheng. And he is the one standing there, beside Anna—my beautiful, strong, and wonderful son. He’s grown so much, hasn’t he? He is the son of the Heavenly Demon. You can see it in his feathers, his eyes, his beak. He carries his father’s spirit, will, and strength.”

The crowd gazed at Song with eyes full of emotion, many amazed as they finally understood the origins of this mysterious, powerful young man.

“The Heavenly Demon had a son?!”

“With the Heavenly Empress…”

“This is…”

“I never imagined this…”

“He’s the young man who fought alongside Anna!”

“I see—it all makes sense now…”

“So the Heavenly Demon lives on! Within that young man! He’s not gone; he lives within him!”

“His bloodline, his legacy, his strength—Song and Anna carry it with pride. My beloved husband, whom I will never forget and will always love for eternity, never to love another… He left me a wonderful gift: this boy, and…”

The Heavenly Empress smiled, gently patting her belly.

“Another gift, who in a few months will bless us with their presence.”

“E-Eh?!” Song gasped.

“Wait, what?!” I couldn’t believe it either.

She’s pregnant?!

When did… Well, we did spend a lot of time together while they trained. I suppose, in the end, they rekindled their bond, and… yes, it must have happened over those weeks.

I’m truly happy! Their love was reignited in those final moments, and now it will give birth to another beautiful child.

“I-I’ll have a little sibling?! Is this true, Mom?!”

“Yes, I am pregnant with his child once more—for the last time. My dear husband, even now as you rest, I want to tell you how happy I am that you’ve blessed me with another child. It’s a pity you won’t be here for them, but I will ensure this child knows how amazing their father was. Now, please, Song, Anna, step forward. I want you to join me in telling everyone the truth about what happened, why we fought so fiercely, and how, despite the sacrifices of these brave heroes, we won.”

We stepped forward and helped Mother speak about the machine invasion, how they captured Song and turned him into a demon king, whom they sealed after he was weakened. We explained how we found Song through the Records of this World, how he helped us rescue his true self, merging the two to fully revive him. And, of course, we honored Zero One and her sisters, their bravery, and the ultimate sacrifice of their Mother, which ended the Horror Beyond the Stars—the Void Ruler—bringing this war to its conclusion.
