Sci-Fi is always at its best when it uses the medium to hold up a mirror to our own society.

im so glad you went in blind, this is such a great movie, cool note the guy who place Wikus was a producer who did some stand in shots while they were working on the movie to test thing and was so good they just cast him as the character, it was his acting debut and he did amazingly. i also love how much effort they made to make sure the Alien's were both extremly strange (tentacle mouths, carapace ect) but at the same time they made sure you could tell emotion on them, it really made so many scenes hit harder when you go from being disgusted by the weird biotech of the alien eggs attached to the cow corpse to the emotions on Christopher's face when he talks about his son, it shows us how easy it is to think of something we dont understand as Other. phenomenal movie, and im so glad you put it on the poll, even more that the fans came out to make sure you watched it haha, thanks for the reaction as always, and absolutely thank you for a reason to watch this movie again. (also side note, i grew up with the whole 'dont cry during media' being the default setting, this was one of the first movies that helped open the flood gates, that scene when his wife on the phone says she doesnt want him to hold her broke me down and i was bawling so many times the rest of the movie after that lol, now these days im on a hair trigger for crying in movies xD)

Addie seeing a person lose their fingernails, teeth, eat cat food - meh Addie seeing a snake for a fraction of a second - Freaks the eff out! πŸ˜„ JK Nice reaction Addie! Sadly, I think this film is pretty accurate on how humans would treat aliens in this situation I sometimes do wish they made a sequel to see what happens next. But I guess leaving things open ended like that is more poignant

Robert da Spruce

Seriously. I liked when they started adding more noms and widening out the genres.

I was pleasantly surprised how well this movie did in the Sci-Fi poll, I knew it was a great movie but I always thought it wasn't as well known as some of the other titles. Glad to see I was wrong about that. πŸ‘

I didn't know what I was in for my first time watching this either. Just knew there was good word of mouth. I was pretty blown away. The CGI is really good. And the part-documentary style really helps sell that this could really happen. It feels really real. Because if an alien spaceship did breakdown, the odds are slim that it would be hovering above NY or LA like a big studio movie would do.

Joe Blankenship

Yes. I want confirmation that Chris came back and helped Wikkus.

I was gonna say Tenet until I saw District 9 was a choice. And, yes, I would trade the entire Fast/Furious franchise for just one sequel to this film...

CHAPIE must be the next

2009 had a lot of great best picture nominations: The Hurt Locker Avatar The Blind Side District 9 An Education Inglourious Basterds Precious A Serious Man Up Up in the Air

The marketing for this back in 2009 was so good. They were MNU commercials reporting β€œnon-human” activity
