SUICIDE SQUAD (2016) - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to the Theatrical Release of Suicide Squad (2016)! This seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I had fun watching this movie! I'm a sucker for the found family trope, and I thought Will Smith and Margot Robbie were both great. Enjoy!

SUICIDE SQUAD (2016) - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

Now you have to watch the good one.

LionBro

It's the theatrical cut (ca. 2 hours, 3 minutes). You probably had the extended cut (ca. 2 hours, 15 minutes).

Max

I'm so glad you kept an open mind and gave this movie a chance. I love Harley. I'm vary happy you had fun watching it.

Lee Pitman

I tried watching along but had to stop because things weren't lining up. Not sure which version of this movie I downloaded but you were talking about the guys staring at Harley change clothes but that was a minute or two before where I was at, yet we were at the same time index.

Dark Shogun

No, I just don’t like Leto’s Joker that much. He just makes the character sound in a daze a lot of the time, it just doesn’t fit the character who is supposedly a chaotic mastermind. Even Phoenix’s Joker comes across as less in a fog than Leto. Just my opinion though, but I think he’s one of the weakest parts of the movie. When Joker feels less intimidating and entertaining on screen than Enchantress and Waller it’s not just the script’s fault.

Doug

For me, personally. He came across as trying way too hard. It felt like he was leaning more into style than substance, which undermined what makes the Joker so compelling in the first place. It reminded me of the Jokerz from Batman Beyond, a group of wannabes who idolised the Joker after his death but missed the point of what made him truly terrifying. They mimicked his look and chaotic energy but lacked the depth, menace, and twisted brilliance that made the original so iconic. The Jokerz were just pale imitations, and that’s the vibe I got here. A character trying so hard to be "The Joker" but ultimately feeling like a surface-level imitation. He definitely pulls a lot from the Millerverse (Earth-31) Joker, which is a pretty unique take on the character, especially thanks to All-Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder. Leto’s Joker seems to draw a lot of inspiration from that version, especially with the dragon tattoo on his back, which mirrors this Joker’s look. It works well enough in The Dark Knight Returns, but outside of that, he’s not really a version of the Joker that resonates with most fans. But hey, if people enjoyed his take on the Joker, fair enough. Personally, it’s the first time I’ve heard anyone call him a good Joker, but to each their own 💙🦇

LittleGalaxyBoy

I think people have it backwards. Jared Leto played one of the best jokers. The issues is, everything else written around him was worse than he was. He would easily be among the top jokers, but he outdid the quality of the rest of the movie. Like a piece of shiny silver trapped in between dirty rust. Hell, if you put Heath Ledgers Joker in this movie, it would of made even him look bad. Either way, im glad you enjoyed it addie and im looking forward to Wonder Woman!

Thats MR. Baldamort

No joke, both the animated Suicide Squads are a lot of fun, especially Hell to Pay. 😄 Although if you're going to watch that one it might pay to watch the animated Flashpoint Paradox first since Hell to Pay ties in to that.

Doug

Suicide Squad was a good movie. The biggest reason people hated on this was because Jared Leto was basically cut from the movie, or the marketing was so completely off that is gave that impression. The Joker was a large part of the promotion for the film.

Lloyd S.

Indeed Jack one of my biggest irritations is pet distraction by reactors. It's ok to a limited degree but we are here to watch reactions to what is on the screen not to pets.

Andrew Roach

Upcoming my favorite movie of the DCEU, I love WW 2017.

Andrew Roach

Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014) Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018) The Suicide Squad (2021) Thankfully we got three amazing SS films worth a watch.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I wouldn’t say it’s “blind allegiance.” People just seem to vibe more with Gunn’s take on The Suicide Squad, which leans more into being an ‘80s action movie with a more timeless art direction, while also not shying away from the outlandish outfits and comic book aspects. It also perfectly captures the feel of the Suicide Squad during its ‘80s run, and overall, it just had a richer personality that people really enjoyed, with more interesting characters. They even managed to make Rick Flag Jr. a compelling character, who was a pretty generic army dude in the first film. I’ve always thought the Suicide Squad concept would’ve worked better as a show rather than a film, but I still think both films were good. The Suicide Squad, in particular, was a great soft reboot that went in its own fun direction and gave birth to two amazing shows, both getting a second season.

LittleGalaxyBoy

It's fun. The DCEU is fun. I'm a sucker for DC Characters though. Excited to continue the journey.

MrAustincummings

Dude, great points. Especially the comparisons between Leto’s Joker and Ledger’s Joker. Everyone shits on Leto’s Joker but I quite like it. Except for the tattoos. That was way out of bounds. But not a reason to just write off Leto. Also, not fair to pit it against Civil War or Deadpool. Addie, great reaction, by the way. Don’t let people sway you one way or another on this movie. With some movies, it seems like it’s the “cool” thing to trash a movie. And I’m really curious if you’ll like the James Gunn directed The Suicide Squad. Because that’s like the opposite side of the coin. Where most people trash the first Suicide Squad, most seem to praise Gunn’s version. Seemingly, out of blind allegiance, in my opinion. Like, with his success with Guardians of the Galaxy, everything he touches is gold. Sure, he’s had a lot of success, his version of SS is about even as far as I’m concerned. Just my opinion. Anyway, glad you liked this version. And I’m excited to watch your reaction to Wonder Woman.

Cameron Kerby

'Suicide Squad' is a great WHAT IF? I like the film, but it just didn't have that 'bite', I got from the SDCC teaser which showed a darker, and different film. WB got cold feet and wanted to take DC the Marvel approach, bad idea. Also, giving David Ayer six weeks to come up with a script isn't a good look. I'm an aspiring writer myself, no even the best writer can come up with a polished work of art in that short amount of time. WB went behind Ayer's back and re-cut and re-edited the film and he disowned it as a result. Too many cooks in one kitchen, sabotage, and mismanagement, all in the name to compete and best the MCU.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

I haven't seen the reaction yet, but I'm sure it's great. I know the movie's great. Never take other people's opinions as your own without investigating. It's sloppy thinking.

Jay Perry

Overall nice reaction, but I have to admit you cooing over your dog every 10 minutes, especially in some scenes where things are going down and you just stop paying attention, really irritated me. No hate Addie, I love your reactions - just a peeve of mine. On a brighter note, I also enjoy this movie more than most seem to, but acknowledge it has it's weaknesses. Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis really carry things. I hope you continue to enjoy your DC journey - looking forward to Wonder Woman!

Jack Kudryl

I agree, Addie! Having never seen any of the original source material, I went in expecting very little, and I enjoyed (most of) it! Margot Robbie was a revelation, and Will Smith was his normal fantastic self.

Phil Stubblefield

I'm jesting, I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to include a show name, but I’ll change it to P-Guy for you. Since it will remove the context of the main star of the series.

LittleGalaxyBoy

You should definitely watch the 2021 one, You won’t regret it!! James Gunn directed (same director of Guardians of the Galaxy movies)

Adam

Now you should watch the good suicide squad...just to compare. 🙃

Bran Flakes

Not Paul. The other P-guy.

Aldo Gonzales

Well, Wise Yoda, they’re about to be introduced to one of the most outlandish and unique characters in DC comics. Prior to Deadpool (2016), most mainstream audiences had no idea who Deadpool was, and now he’s got a billion-dollar trilogy and has grown into one of the most iconic Marvel characters in less than a decade. Lobo was insanely popular in the '90s, but that was 30 years ago. Still, Lobo has the potential to find a modern audience pretty easily, just like Deadpool did throughout the 2010s.

LittleGalaxyBoy

What did Paul Dini ever do to you!!!

LittleGalaxyBoy

(nobody knows who Lobo is)

Joe Blankenship

Alright, Officer Gonzale. Removed the last part but I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to mention that Amanda Waller is in more Suicide Squad content, since she founded the team and has always played a big role in everything Suicide Squad. Have a nice day, Officer.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Please erase the last paragraph. You’re spoiling. Also, please keep it to just one comment.

Aldo Gonzales

Erase the P-word. You’re spoiling.

Aldo Gonzales

Forgot to mention this in my original comment, but the city where the Suicide Squad is deployed is Midway City, located in Michigan. In the comics, Midway City is best known as the home of the Doom Patrol. They’re kind of like Marvel’s X-Men, both teams are led by genius guys in wheelchairs and consist of misfit heroes who are shunned by society. Hopefully we'll see them down the line. It’s hard to tell the DCEU cities apart since they all use the same real-world filming locations and lack unique visual designs to make them stand out. Metropolis, Gotham, and Midway City might as well be the same place in this universe. Also, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller is perfect casting. You’ll be happy to know that she’s coming back to play Waller in the new DC universe, one of the few returning actors in the same role. Speaking of returning actors, Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman in the DCEU, has now been cast as Lobo, a role he not only wanted but was born to play. I love him as Aquaman, but if you look at a comic panel, Momoa is the spitting image of Lobo. I’m sure we’ll see more actors from the DCEU taking on different roles in the new universe.

Another Margot Robbie movie that I also suggest is Babylon (2022). #BabylonForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/t7HT83wkVss?feature=shared And I have three other Will Smith movies that I'll also suggest to you, all produced by Jerry Bruckheimer: Bad Boys (1995), https://youtu.be/jqBLf1EjAPE?feature=shared Enemy of the State (1998), for next Christmas, https://youtu.be/a3mrRv-1khI?feature=shared and Gemini Man (2019). https://youtu.be/6orc_lHvJKY?feature=shared #MoreWillSmithForAddieCounts

Another David Ayer movie that I would suggest to you is Fury (2014) with Brad Pitt. #FuryForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/09w9MTtZDEM?feature=shared

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 Glad that you enjoyed this one. I agree. Margot Robbie and Will Smith were great in this movie. This is a good movie, but as already mentioned here in the comments the James Gunn one is better. I keep forgetting that David Harbour is in this. For more Margot Robbie, I very highly recommend the 2017 movie "I, Tonya" if you haven't seen it already Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Randee Carreno

Will Smith and Margo Robie are definitely the best part of the film. 👍 Overall I’d rate it ok, not the best film I’ve seen but not the worst either. 🤷‍♂️ (Keep in mind, this movie came out the same year as Deadpool and Civil War, and since Joker is in it it gets compared to Heath Ledger’s Joker in Dark Knight, so compared side by side with those it’s kind of so-so.)

Doug

And if you really wanna see Will Smith & Margot Robbie in another movie, then I also suggest Focus (2015). #FocusForAddieCounts Trailer 1: https://youtu.be/btI7yHxn1NU?feature=shared Trailer 2: https://youtu.be/6vY9UPiI4eQ?feature=shared

I don’t actually mind this film, but I just couldn't get behind this rendition of the Joker, along with Killer Croc being a disappointment for me. He’s one of my favorite Batman villains, but here he just looks like some thug working for the real Killer Croc. In the comics, some Batman villains have a gang themed around them. Thats the vibe I got from Croc in this film. The same goes for the Joker in this film. He came across as a "fake Joker" to me. Some Joker thug who took up the mantle, probably after Ben's Batman killed the real Joker. But nope, he’s supposed to be the actual Joker of the DCEU. I just couldn’t buy that this was the arch nemesis of Batman for 20 years, and the same person who killed Robin in this universe… Robin could’ve taken him easily, Dick Grayson doesn’t mess around. That said, it was cool seeing Harley Quinn in live action. She’s such an iconic character, originally introduced in Batman: The Animated Series (1992) and inspired by Arleen Sorkin, who also voiced her in the series. Sorkin’s take is still the best version of Harley, but Margot Robbie did a great job showing us a post-Joker Harley who's based more on her New 52 (2011–2016) appearance. It would’ve been nice if they had explored Joker and Harley’s relationship more. From what I understand, that was the original plan, but WB interference messed things up. There were even leaks of Harley in her original costume for more scenes, which would’ve been awesome to see beyond the little montage. The scene we do see at 12:00 mirrors the iconic Alex Ross cover art for Batman: Harley Quinn (1999) #1, which I’ll link below. This was Harley’s first appearance in the comics, written by Paul Dini, who created the character, alongside Bruce Timm. The cover shows Harley in her classic outfit, dancing with the Joker, who’s dressed in a sharp black tux just like the short scene in the film. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Batman-Harley-Quinn-1999-1-ebook/dp/B00KWGK5NE But overall, I much prefer The Suicide Squad (2021) along with P-word (2022). James Gunn totally nailed the “misfit squad of villains” vibe, and you can feel that same energy in Creature Commandos (2024) too, which is sort of a loose sequel to The Suicide Squad. It also has a much better tone and visual style that feels more like The Suicide Squad from the comics, setting it apart from the Snyder-style look that the first film had.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Happy Friday, Addie. I'm glad that you enjoyed the theatrical release of Suicide Squad (2016). I did watch the extended cut of the movie, in preparation for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) and I did like it fine, but as I look back on this movie, I wish that director David Ayer had the movie done his way. It's the studio interference from Warner Bros. & DC that caused the movie to be the way it is. However, I still get a good jam out of "Heathens" by Twenty One Pilots. I can't wait to see you watch James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (2021) as you progress through the DCEU. You're gonna have a lot more fun with that one. #TheSuicideSquad2021ForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/Z1EbSXxrZ34?feature=shared

James Gunn’s take on the Suicide Squad is even better. You’ll see why.
