Added 2024-10-28 16:00:10 +0000 UTCHere's the full length reaction to A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)! This one definitely had some good jump scares, and I was able to laugh at times with the cheesiness of it all! I have officially survived this month of horror-ish movies! Enjoy!
I wanted to watch Young Frankenstein this month, but it still isn't available for streaming (I've checked other countries with a VPN, and it truly isn't streaming anywhere). I'll keep an eye on it to hopefully watch it in the future!

The first time I watched this movie, I was in college by myself in a near-empty dorm building (most people had gone home for the weekend). Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well for a while!

2024-10-31 21:51:12 +0000 UTCCongrats on your second Wes Craven film, the first was 'Scream'. Yeah, the ending is a bit contentious with fans because Craven hated it. He fought with a producer who wanted Freddy alive for more sequels. The third film, 'Dream Warriors' is my personal favorite and one of the best in the series and is highly praised for good reason. I remember when 'Freddy vs Jason' was coming out in 2003, I was in elementary. Everybody was excited for it, the hype was real and it delivered! Oh, and allegedly, Johnny Depp was cast because Craven's daughter and her friend thought he was hot when they were looking through audition/casting headshots.

2024-10-29 16:12:04 +0000 UTCI offered to send her a physical copy of the movie, but I guess she didn't see said comments... or else she didn't want to be potentially indebted to me in any way. 🤨🤷♂️ Anyway, as I've said before, this is my main problem with streaming services: they're often unreliable for being able to watch a specific movie at any given time... which is why I still hold on to my thousands of DVD's/Blu-rays that I've accumulated since the turn of the century.

2024-10-29 15:10:33 +0000 UTCI agree with you that the Jason movies aren't great. For me it's JASON LIVES and FvJ that I actually think are his best movies. JASON X has some good kills, but the story is too far gone. The funny thing about FvJ, and this is just a nitpick, how long would it take Jason to walk from New Jersey to Ohio without anyone seeing him? I think I remember hearing some rumors of teleportation happening there. Because in Mortal Kombat they do have Jason doing some kind of teleporting. But the mythology of Jason has changed around so much that none of the timelines or "powers" make sense anymore. I mean, he was turned into a child at one point in the series. Don't get me started on the worm.

He’s basically just an abused kid taking revenge on his perceived tormentors, while Freddy is an outright sadist killing kids for fun. On the other hand the Friday the 13th movies are pretty terrible. The first one is the most watchable but it’s still not as good a film as Nightmare, and the sequels are kind of bottom barrel. (Ironically the “best” Jason sequel might be Freddy vs. Jason, and even that’s a pretty mediocre film. It was cathartic seeing Jason beat the crap out of Freddy though. 😄)

2024-10-29 14:37:44 +0000 UTCYeah, it’s very weird, for some reason Young Frankenstein has been in some kind of streaming limbo for a few years where Disney has just not allowed it to be rented via streaming anywhere at all. I have no idea why, it’s the only Mel Brooks movie (and really the only movie I can think of) that you simply can’t rent a stream of it on Amazon or Itunes or Youtube, etc, let alone find it on any of the streaming subscription services. You’d think a film as popular as Young Frankenstein would be on Disney+ but no dice so far. 🤷♂️ It does play on live TV still though. My mom just recorded it last week on a cable channel for example after I happened to mention the weird streaming thing with this movie. And you can probably find a physical copy if you have a DvD player, etc. I’m sure someday it’ll be available, just apparently not any time soon, 😕

2024-10-29 11:56:09 +0000 UTCNightmare on Elm Street is ok, the premise of the killer that attacks people in their dreams is solid and Robert Englund does a good job as Freddy, and it does manage to deliver some neat practical effects and creepy moments. On the other hand it feels a little dated at times and a lot of the acting isn't great so I wouldn't put it at the top of my horror list nowadays, I'd probably put it at 6 out of 10 overall. 🤷♂️ (It is pretty fun seeing a really, REALLY young Johnny Depp though! Lol, if he wasn't mentioned in the intro credits I'd never recognize him.) And the 2010 remake is skippable too, they mostly just copied and pasted the original with different actors. I don't like the sequels, either. The best thing about the sequels is they let Freddy lean into doing silly things for comic value, which I guess if you're looking for something really campy and cheesy that's what they are. But just overall I don't think they're on par with this first one. In fact I think the best thing about this film is simply that it brought Freddy as a character with a surrounding myth and dark humor into the zeitgeist where he's taken on a larger life of his own in Halloween costumes, satires, random cameos and so on. In a way Freddy's "life" after this film kind of outshines the film itself. If nothing else that probably makes the film worth it. 🙂

2024-10-29 00:50:06 +0000 UTCIn my opinion It's best not to think so much about what's a dream and what isn't with the nightmare movies. It takes you out of it. Dreams and nightmares are so fluid when you're in a battle with sleep and sleep deprivation that it's so hard to tell. I'm not sure if that's what the director was going for exactly, but for me it helps with the immersion... probably because I'm an insomniac. Treat the entire movie like a bad dream.

Mainly the acting from everyone but Johnny depp felt like they were reading off the script as they filmed. Robert England was good too obviously but this movie does not hold up imo (Acting Wise)

One of my reasons why I'm really excited for this one is not only is it one of my all-time favorite horror movies, but this year is the 40th anniversary of this movie. Yes, this was Johnny Depp's very first movie. And he gets one of the most memorable death scenes in the movie. Fun Fact: Freddy Krueger is only on screen for 7 minutes. Fun Fact #2: There's a deleted scene where Nancy's mom reveals that Nancy, Glenn, Tina, and Rod all had an older sibling that Freddy had killed. I'm ordering in a pizza for dinner, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this reaction this evening. For more of Robert Englund(pronounced England): I VERY HIGHLY recommend the 80s sci-fi 2 part mini-series "V: The Mini-Series" and its sequel "V: The Final Battle". And maybe next Halloween you'll be open to watching "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge". Have a great day today! 😊

Recently, I just watched this movie for the first time, with my girlfriend, and we both enjoyed it. Now you need to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) & Scream 2 (1997), next year. #ANightmareOnElmStreet2ForAddieCounts #Scream2ForAddieCounts BTW, perfect timing for the film's 40th anniversary this year. And yes, this is Johnny Depp's VERY FIRST movie.
