Highly doubtful but thought I'd give it a shot since it's my all-time favorite Mel Brooks movie, although you'll get more out of it if you first watch the original "Frankenstein" and "Bride of Frankenstein".

Dracula (Bela Lugosi) wants to use Lou’s brain to re-animate the Frankenstein monster (Glenn Strange) to ensure it is more compliant to his suggestions. 2024-10-01 19:57:46 +0000 UTCHere are my recommendations for this year: a. Creepshow (1982) or Trick 'r Treat (2007). These are short story compilations. None are too scary, but all entertaining. b. Night of the Living Dead (1968). Classic but still creepy for modern audiences. Like other classic films, it has subtext beyond the obvious story. c. An American Werewolf in London (1981). Classic. A good mixture of horror and humor, but I would call it a horror and not a horror-comedy. Not too scary but brilliant. d. Talk To Me (2022). Goriest and creepiest I'll suggest. If you like horror it isn't scary, but if you scare easy it'll be enough to make you uncomfortable. e. The Witch (2015). Probably my favorite horror movie from the last 25 years. Some people find it boring but I think it is a slow burn that is creepy as hell. (And I fully support the "no Exorcist" decision... but if you do change your mind I vote for the original version)

2024-10-01 18:07:50 +0000 UTCTotally agree. I'm not a fan of horror myself, but over the last few years, I've watch a lot more horror than I'd my entire life, some were better than others. Horror as a genre doesn't get the respect it deserves. For example, the Academy only recognized 'Silence of the Lambs' because it was labeled as psychological thriller NOT horror. The word horror is 'sensitive' when it comes to the Academy. My guess is that horror is made for the cheap and not the usual multi-million summer blockbuster like the rest of the Hollywood genres, also, horror is varied with possession, monster/creature feature, serial killer/thriller, ghosts, and found footage.

Along with 'The Exorcist' they're what I personally call horror epics, grand in the vain of historical epics but with horror. Also, I have recommended 'The Evil Dead' trilogy to Addie before. She knows that they are more or less horror comedies but I've recommended she should start with 'Evil Dead 2' because its more a comedy and less gore. 'Ash vs Evil Dead' is an underrated series and I was sad that it got cancelled.

"The Birds" (1963, Alfred Hitchcock: killer birds, suspenseful). "Monster House" (2006, animated horror/comedy). "Blade 2: (2002, action/horror: Blade battling creepy monster vampires this time). "The Frighteners" (1996, horror/comedy: Michael J. Fox plays a ghost hunter). "Identity" (2003, horror/mystery: a very good suspense thriller whodunit with John Cusack). "Creepshow" (1982, horror/fantasy: 5 short stories based on a horror comic book. Purposely campy to mimic the comic book, some gore, and a few jump scares. "Happy Death Day" (2017, horror/mystery: Think a cross between "Groundhog Day" and "Scream", a LOT of fun.

2024-10-01 16:29:14 +0000 UTCAs far as more serious, scarier horror movies go, my suggestions include - Let the Right One In - An American Werewolf in London (it’s half comedy, half scary) - 28 Days Later (my favorite zombie movie after Shaun of the Dead) - Get Out - Midsommar or Hereditary (both really good but also really intense, fyi) - The Babadook (🎵 doo-dooo da doo-dooo) - The Omen or The Exorcist (Not sure Addie will watch these but they’re classics so I wouldn’t feel right not including them)

2024-10-01 16:29:09 +0000 UTCNothing 'horror' about "Murder by Death;" it's basically an Agatha Christie/whodunnit spoof. If she watches "Little Shop of Horrors," I recommend she watches either the theatrical cut or director's cut in its entirety and then also watches the just third act of whichever version she didn't watch as well (since that last act is literally the only difference between the 2 versions).

2024-10-01 16:23:46 +0000 UTCHappy October Tuesday, Addie! 🎃👻 Here are some of my favorite scary movies: "Night of the Comet"(1984)- a campy zombie movie, at least the first "Scream" movie(1996), the original 1984 "A Nightmare on Elm Street"(it's always a must-watch for me this time of the year), "The Exorcist"(1973), the original 1982 "Poltergeist", "The Burbs"(1989), "Clue(1985)- a fun type of spooky movie, the 1990 2-part "IT" mini-series, the 2017 "IT" remake and the 2019 sequel "IT: Chapter 2", "Lights Out"(2016), and because of the sequel movie that's in theaters now, if you haven't seen yet "Beetlejuice"(1988). 2024-10-01 16:19:58 +0000 UTCTucker and Dale and Young Frankenstein are awesome. 😄 Unfortunately, like you said, Young Frankenstein seems to be totally unavailable on any streaming service and has been for a few years. Disney apparently owns the rights to it but for some reason they’re sitting on it with no sign of putting it up on Disney+ or anywhere else, it’s very strange considering how popular the movie is.

2024-10-01 16:15:18 +0000 UTCI'll go for a couple of British classics. I think you might like The Wicker Man (1973), it's more mystery/suspense than horror and will keep you guessing. If you're in the mood for a horror comedy, Theatre of Blood (1973) is a hoot.

2024-10-01 16:13:12 +0000 UTCYou might also consider the Burbs (1989), if you haven't seen it. It has both Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher and is a sort of lighter, comedic horror movie. A slightly scarier movie (thought it's animated, so your mileage may vary) is Coraline (2009).

If you have not already seen them, they are an absolute blast and cult classic. Given your love of some other random stuff on here I think they will be good for you.
