THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to The Hunt for Red October! Gonna be honest, I was confused for a good bit of this movie, and I think I'll pick up on a lot more when I'll watching it while editing. I was distracted because there was a freaking MOSQUITO flying around and biting me for a good portion of this. I didn't realize that this movie has such a great cast though! Enjoy!

I hope you will get around to watching the other Jack Ryan films especially Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger.

Robert Durant

To scuttle the sub means to deliberately destroy it, most commonly used in the context of preventing it, as well as any other classified information or technology, from falling into enemy hands.

Another really good Jack Ryan movie that never gets reacted to is Sum of all Fears. It holds up just as well as the Harrison Ford movies. Some people think it's meh, but I'd bet a lot that you'd enjoy it and it's worth a reaction. Tom Clancy said Ben Affleck was his favorite Jack Ryan. Just don't watch Shadow Recruit, Chris Pine sucks.

John A

Yep, this is the first and I think the best of the Jack Ryan movies, with Clear and Present Danger starring Harrison Ford as a close second. So if you're looking for another good Jack Ryan movie, I'd go with that one. 🙂 The other three you could probably skip. Patriot Games (also with Harrison Ford) is ok but not as good. The Sum of All Fears (with Ben Affleck) was kind of mediocre, and I didn't see Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (with Chris Pine) but it seems to be the lowest rated of the five so I wouldn't expect much from that either. 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, this was fun! (Despite some,... well, you know....) 😒👋🦟

Addie, my friend, another wonderful reaction to one of my FAVORITE FILMS. I read most of Tom Clancy's novels back in the day. There have been a number of film adaptions, some of them (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger) are pretty good, featuring Harrison Ford as Ryan. Some of them (Sum of All Fears {one of my favorite NOVELS from Clancy} was SUB-Meh, in my opinion. I didn't bother watching the one with Chris Pine. You mentioned the stellar cast and you are NOT wrong. Dunno if you recognized the cook, Igor Loginov, the GRU agent who tries to destroy the Red October. (GRU was the soviet military intelligence bureau) He is portrayed by Tomas Arana, who you've seen at least once before, in Gladiator. He was Maximus' junior, who then arrested Maximus and ordered the execution of him and his family. You've also seen Admiral Painter's actor, Fred Thompson. He played the head of the airport in Die Hard 2. Captain Davenport was played by Daniel Davis. One TV show you might have seen Davis in is The Nanny alongside Fran Drescher. He played the highly sarcastic butler Niles. Scuttling means to sink the ship on purpose in order to deny capture by the enemy. It is an extreme measure, the last resort possible. Several people have mentioned the film Crimson Tide as a good submarine movie for you to watch. I STRONGLY concur with this suggestion.

Mosquitoes love me! I don't love them so much haha

Addie Counts

Great film and im back from Iceland so a lot of films to catch up on. Addie your so close to 100k now and so looking forward to some sort of live stream.

Wow, that says a lot about the power of mosquitoes because I’ve always been impressed with how quickly you’re able to discern movie plots.

Julian San

He's the guy first sent on the same mission as Willard but ended up being part of Kurtz's cult. There's rough footage of more of his deleted scenes on the Blu-ray.

Byrd N. Hand

Wow. I didn't even know that.

You did great, Addie! One of my favorite movies, this can take another view or two for full comprehension, especially if you’re learning some military jargon/elements along with the plot. The books of Tom Clancy (in particular the ones revolving around Jack Ryan) were immensely popular and a great read if one was into the spy thriller genre. As others have said, Harrison Ford takes over the role for the next two films and they are also very good. Ben Affleck then steps into one film and Chris Pine does so after him before the films stop and Jack Ryan heads to the small screen for the series with John Krasinski. I think most would agree the first three films are where the best return on investment comes from but use your own discretion of course. And I hope that mozzy was found and removed before it did too much more damage. 😀

Ian Forbes

I think you'll enjoy Crimson Tide much more. It's more of a character-driven movie with strong writing and great, lived-in performances all around. I think it's a much more exciting film and the standoffs between Hackman and Washington are absolute dynamite.

sarCC

"I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck. Maybe even a recreational vehicle. And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?" "I suppose." "No papers?" "No papers, state to state." "Well then, in winter I will live in Arizona. Actually, I think I will need two wives." "Oh, at least." For a movie known more for naval warfare, spy stuff, and Sean Connery's distinctively thick brogue tearing into a Russian accent, this is one of my favorite comedic bits of dialogue from a movie ever. But all the naval warfare, spy stuff, and Sean Connery is really good too.

The hunt for the annoying Mosquito! LOL Bless you girl!

Agreed, it's okay to pause a full length reaction when you have to take care of something, even if it's a mosquito. Some reactors edit the pause out. other just do another countdown for us to resync. It's not the end of the world if we have to do that. I think addie should do that next time.

Thats MR. Baldamort

Since Addie does her own edits (some reaction channels do not), if she needs to pause the movie to 'take care of business', be it a mosquito entrapment or an emergency bathroom break, the movie can be resumed to finish her reaction and the break can be fixed in edit.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Don’t feel bad most women have trouble following this movie. It’s mostly a guy movie. Just like guys have trouble with rom com movies 😂😂

Perry Campbell

Glenn was also initially supposed to have a larger role in "Apocalypse Now," but it was basically reduced to a miniscule cameo. 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

Speaking of Scott Glenn, who plays Captain Bart Mancuso, Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Ezra Kramer in The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Stick in Daredevil, I also suggest The Right Stuff (1983), Silverado (1985), Backdraft (1991), Courage Under Fire (1996), Absolute Power (1997), Firestorm (1998), The Virgin Suicides (1999), Vertical Limit (2000) and Training Day (2001). #MoreScottGlennForAddieCounts

Also some fun facts about this movie for you Addie: Two of the submarine Captains in this movie have actual Navy experience. Sir Sean Connery was in the Royal Navy before becoming an actor. Scott Glenn spent three years in the United States marines. Before dying, Borodin (Sir Sam Neill) says "I would have liked to have seen Montana..." then In Jurassic Park (1993), the same actor Neill's character Dr. Grant is introduced while leading a dinosaur dig in Montana xD

The only thing hunting was this mosquito for Addies red blood!

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 I've been looking forward to this one. This is a good movie. Anything with Sean Connery(RIP always) in is going to be good. However, the next two movies in the 'Jack Ryan' film series are my faves. If you don't end up continuing on with the rest of the Jack Ryan movies, there's four more, I hope that you'll at least watch the next two: "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger". Because Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan is the BEST!!! Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

Randee Carreno

And just when I wasn't sure whether I had any plans tonight, this reaction shows up... 😁

Phil Stubblefield

Now THAT makes good sense.

Alex Tan

But was it a Soviet insect? The Hunt for Red Mosquito?

Happy Friday, Addie. I'm so glad that you went ahead and watched The Hunt for Red October (1990), despite how confusing it was for you. Hopefully you'll pick up more things while editing. I own this movie, alongside the other four Jack Ryan movies on Blu-ray and I'm definitely watching this tonight. BTW, the earliest Alec Baldwin movie that you've ever seen was actually Beetlejuice (1988), which came out two years before this one. And I do hope that you caught that mosquito. EDIT: Might I call it, The Hunt for Red Mosquito.
