I'm with you on the Viktor Drago characterization. It really felt like they were using screentime to show us a sort of reluctance within him. I think there is some untapped potential there, but I get that they may have been going for subtlety with his arc (this movie set out to accomplish quite a bit; especially with three title fights and a freaking pregnancy!). I liked it a lot, but I can't help but feel like there was some food still left on the plate, if that makes any sense. I will need to watch it again!

2024-08-25 01:35:32 +0000 UTCRocky 4 and Creed 2 have obvious parallels in their arcs, but Creed just seems so much better. One thing I particularly love about this movie is how they managed to take Ivan Drago, who was a very one-dimensional antagonist in the original, and made him a more fully realized character. In fact, by the end of the movie you realize that Ivan's ex-wife is almost the true villain of the story, being so fickle and pride filled that she simply turns her back on her husband and son the moment they show any weakness. Ivan managed to actually go through quite a bit of character growth by the end of the film when he's jogging side by side with Viktor. And that's not to take away from any of the main character arcs. The acting and direction is pretty great across the board, and it's just a really fine film over all. It's one of those rare times when a sequel really surpasses the original (or in this case surpasses the previous sequel.)

I wasn't crying. π That scene where Adonis is hitting the heavy bag in frustration in front of his baby... It punches me in the feels every time. And it's a very unlikely scene to hit me that hard. [All boxing puns intended] Though this movie was great, I like the storyline and fight shots in "Creed III" the best-- and it's directed by Michael B. Jordan no less! I'm really looking forward to that post. π₯π€π₯

Something that I forgot to mention in the comments for the first "Creed" movie was the training scene in that movie tied as my top favorite Rocky/Creed training montage with the Rocky 4 "Hearts on Fire" training scenes. And the training montage in this movie is my all-time 2nd favorite along with the Rocky 3 one with Rocky and Apollo. I think my only disappointment with this movie is that we didn't get to see Adonis and Bianca's wedding. LOL! And surprise! Ivan Drago is back! I love that they got Milo Ventimiglia back as Rocky Jr./Robert for that end scene. Loved that we got to see more of Mary Ann Creed(Apollo's wife) in this one. And that baby they got for Adonis and Bianca's baby daughter is so adorable! I might end up watching this reaction later this afternoon instead of waiting until tonight. Have a great day today! π
