THE ROCK - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

RIP Don Simpson (1943-1996), Sean Connery (1930-2020) and now Tony Todd (1954-2024).

During Mason’s time locked up he never stopped thinking about escaping any and every chance he got if the opportunity came around. Stanley Goodspeed was great in the lab, not so much in the field πŸ˜‚ Addie β€œThey have the high ground.” You have been using tons of applicable phrases from your ever growing knowledge of movies. You have come such a long way from β€œThat’s a meme! I get it now!”

Diamonds are Forever is set in San Francisco at one point. And it's the last canonical Connery bond movie. It's a fun theory I've heard.

The Rock is a fun movie. πŸ™‚ The plot is kind of goofy, but what a cast! Not just the main characters (Cage, Harris, and Connery) but the supporting cast also had a lot of familiar character actors as well. (Has John McGinley ever played a likeable good guy? πŸ€” He's been a bad guy in SO many films and TV shows! Including somewhat recently on Addie's channel he was super-annoying FBI chief in Point Break.)

Over 5000 mile for me but my mom went and shared many stories from her visit. Always think of mom when it comes to Alcatraz.

PS talking of Cage "Knowing" hash tag for the list. πŸ™πŸ˜˜

"I saw that it was Hans Zimmer." The music was also made by Nick Glennie-Smith & Harry Gregson-Williams.

I visited San Fran in the early 90s as a kid but I never knew about Alcatraz at the time.

It is theorized that Sean Connery’s character (Mason), being secretly a British secret agent back in the 60s, was James Bond who had his identity erased and name changed. It’s known that MI6 disavows double β€˜O’ agents who are captured. Though it is not officially canon, I like to imagine so. 😊

Very true! I liked his character a lot!

The actor who plays Lt. Shepard is Danny Nucci. He was also Fabrizio in Titanic (1997). Another movie with him in it that I would also suggest to you is Crimson Tide (1995) with Denzel Washington & Gene Hackman. It's also produced by Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer and is directed by Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun (1986). #CrimsonTideForAddieCounts

Great! Looking forward to seeing you react to this one. Although, I really wouldn't call Hummel (Ed Harris) a "villain". He absolutely was trying to do right by his men, and their families, who were hung out to dry by their ungrateful government. I would call him more an antagonist than villain.

I second First Knight (1995). It's one medieval movie that I would suggest to Addie. It's also directed by Jerry Zucker, one of the co-directors of Airplane! (1980). #FirstKnightForAddieCounts And another 1996 Sean Connery movie that I would also love to see Addie watch is DragonHeart (1996). #DragonHeartForAddieCounts Speaking of Nicolas Cage, I STILL suggest ALL of his Jerry Bruckheimer movies, including Con Air (1997), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), G-Force (2009) & The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010), alongside his John Woo movies Face/Off (1997) & Windtalkers (2002), as well as Raising Arizona (1987), Vampire's Kiss (1988), Leaving Las Vegas (1995), City of Angels (1998), Snake Eyes (1998), Bringing out the Dead (1999), The Family Man (2000), Lord of War (2005), The Weather Man (2005), World Trade Center (2006), Ghost Rider (2007, EXTENDED CUT), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), Renfield (2023) & Dream Scenario (2023). #MoreNicolasCageForAddieCounts

So now are you interested in seeing Sean Connery's take on James Bond? πŸ™ (First 7 movies of the series -- though George Lazenby gives a one-off performance in the role in #6... but they all have a loose through line).

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 RIP always to the late great Sean Connery! This is one of my favorite movies of his and of Nicolas Cage's. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Another great movie for Nicolas Cage that I highly recommend is the 1987 "Moonstruck". And for Sean Connery I very highly recommend the 1995 "First Knight". Have a great day today! 😊

Happy Wednesday, Addie. The Rock (1996) is my all-time favorite Michael Bay movie, alongside Ambulance (2022). Sean Connery (RIP) & Nicolas Cage make an awesome duo and Ed Harris makes a tragic villain. This was also Michael Bay's first movie to ever be shot in the 2.39:1 Super 35 format by John Schwartzman, ASC. Unfortunately, he didn't like it due to the increased grain it created when optically blown up to anamorphic film prints, at the time. Fortunately, a Technicolor lab in Rome, Italy had a bleach bypass process called ENR that allowed the colors to be manipulated. It only costed 3Β’ a foot and Disney was willing to chip in since they realized that the had a hit on their hands with this movie. 1,100 prints were made with ENR while 2,000 of them were done optically. As a result, most of Bay's movies, starting with Armageddon (1998) and minus Bad Boys II (2003) (which was also shot in Super 35, but finished with a higher-quality digital intermediate process), were Filmed in Panavision (anamorphic).
