Still had nothing on the summer of '89, though.

2024-03-15 13:43:14 +0000 UTCThat summer of ‘96 was HUGE! The Rock, Twister, Mission Impossible, and then Independence Day! It was great to be a teenager that year!

2024-03-12 14:39:07 +0000 UTCIn that case, I nominate "Top Secret!" (though it's technically a human experiencing said peril in that one), "City Slickers," and "Fast Food Nation" to continue the trend. 😁

2024-03-12 14:05:50 +0000 UTCShe also suffered a similar PTSD from The Shining (1980) when she watched Ready Player One (2018). I think that's why both movies won her polls.

2024-03-12 10:51:30 +0000 UTCThanks for the bonus reaction to The Shining! :D I've seen a couple Twister reactions where the reactor suffers similar trauma. I am a casual storm chaster. People chase for a lot of reasons, from adrenaline to business (video & photography), research, and to help with warnings. Once you understand how storms and tornadoes work they aren't as scary. I certainly would not want to experience one, however I'm confident in my abilities to avoid them. I really like this movie for the entertainment value, however nobody should confuse it with a storm chasing training video. :) Dusty is my absolute favorite. I also always get a kick of the squeak toy hitting the windshield after they drive through the house. Also a couple tricks to get your dog to calm down during storms are: They will react how you react. Stay calm. Then whenever there is loud thunder give them a treat. Over time this will help.

2024-03-12 04:52:32 +0000 UTCFun movie. 🙂 Out of curiosity I double checked to see how realistic Dorothy was and it's actually modeled after a real life machine called TOTO (for TOtable Tornado Observatory) that scientists at NOAA tried to use in the '80s where they would place the tank filled with instruments in what they hoped would be the path of the tornado. Unfortunately it didn't really pan out with tornados because of all the logistical problems and risks involved, including the risk of lightning strikes while they were setting up this big metal object in a storm. The closest it got to a tornado it tipped over because it turned out to be too top heavy. Eventually it was retired in 1987.

2024-03-12 02:37:41 +0000 UTCThis movie's ridiculous but it was pretty fun to see it in the theater. And the effects aren't too bad for a 30 year old movie.

2024-03-12 02:12:54 +0000 UTCWill Addie ever escape The Shining?! The actual movie... Ready Player One... Twister... what's next?? The scene at the drive in is actually my favorite. Nothing but a dark night sky and then with a little help from some lightning we see it very very close by!!

2024-03-12 00:43:56 +0000 UTC(in response to the caption in parentheses) Now you need to watch another love story, but one that's more of a light-hearted rom-com, since this movie made you feel stressed. I suggest Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Fools Rush In (1997), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), As Good As It Gets (1997) and Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer). #MoreLoveStoriesForAddieCounts

2024-03-11 22:10:21 +0000 UTCI always enjoy watching this one. I saw it in the theater, which was LOUD, but fun. And it was the first DVD I watched when I got my first surround sound system at home. I remember when I saw this in the theater I was so happy to see Jami Gertz in it, because I always liked her and had not seen her in anything for so long before this.

2024-03-11 20:24:14 +0000 UTCAh yes. Earthquake (1974) had as sound system called Sensurround.

2024-03-11 20:15:54 +0000 UTCSaw this first run in a theater with a great sound system. Loudest movie ever. (And I saw Earthquake with the Cerwin-Vega floor and wall shakers.)

2024-03-11 20:08:30 +0000 UTCAddie, fun fact, this movie could be considered a documentary where I live as this is pretty much a yearly occurrence in my neck of the woods In the midwest. Other than the part where they see the inside of a tornado, most of this is pretty realistic. I live only an hour away from the set house they used in Iowa, and it's still there.

2024-03-11 16:53:49 +0000 UTCSpeaking of stressful, I would love to see Addie watch Sicario (2015) and it's sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018). Both movies will DEFINITELY feel stressful to her. #SicarioForAddieCounts

2024-03-11 16:45:24 +0000 UTCWait until...? You think Addie will watch "The Exorcist?" She was nervous about "Cloverfield". LOL

2024-03-11 16:42:51 +0000 UTCI second As Good As It Gets (1997). It also has Jack Nicholson from The Shining (1980), which was featured in this movie (which I think is why it won on her poll last week). Nicholson's performance in that movie will also make Addie smile after being scarred by him in The Shining. #AsGoodAsItGetsForAddieCounts I also second Disney's Mighty Joe Young (1998) because that was the very first Bill Paxton movie that I ever watched. #DisneysMightyJoeYoungForAddieCounts

2024-03-11 16:37:14 +0000 UTCHappy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend celebrating your birthday. 😊 RIP always to Bill Paxton and to Philip Seymour Hoffman! I've been looking forward to you watching this movie. As much as I love this movie, as someone who lives in what's known as "Tornado Alley" the only time I don't watch this movie is when there's severe weather in the forecast. Otherwise, this is one of those movies that I watch whenever it's on tv. For another great Helen Hunt movie I very highly recommend the 1997 "As Good As It Gets". For more great Bill Paxton, I very highly recommend the 1997 "Titanic"(if by some chance you haven't seen it) and the 1998 "Mighty Joe Young". I'll probably end up watching this reaction this afternoon and again this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

2024-03-11 16:33:09 +0000 UTC...and if you thought that The Shining (1980) scarred you, then just wait until you watch the 2000 Extended Director's Cut of The Exorcist (1973) AKA: The Version You've Never Seen. #TheExorcistForAddieCounts

2024-03-11 16:00:44 +0000 UTCLet's give Addie a round of applause for surviving Twister (1996). 👏👏 Happy Monday. I hope that you had a great birthday celebration over the weekend and I'm so glad that you enjoyed this movie, despite how stressed it made you feel as well as having to relive your traumatic memory of watching The Shining (1980), which is my belief on why it won your latest poll on Patreon. Being a junkie for heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled action movies, I would definitely rewatch this one. It's also my favorite Jan de Bont movie, alongside Speed (1994). This is also the VERY FIRST movie to ever be released on DVD in 1997 and I own a DVD copy of the movie from that year, as well as the Blu-ray. I'm very hyped to see the upcoming new movie Twisters (2024) in IMAX with my girlfriend, in July. That movie is gonna be awesome, which is why it's my most anticipated movie of the summer and why I'm suggesting that movie to you. #TwistersForAddieCounts I also enjoyed the former Twister...Ride it Out attraction at Universal Studios Florida (the spot where the ride once stood is now where they have Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon), which is why my favorite scene in this movie has to be the drive-in tornado at night. Another reason why I loved that scene is because I was also introduced to The Shining (1980) and I really enjoyed watching that movie, when I got more into horror movies as I got older. I also own The Shining on DVD in 4:3 Full-Screen format, which is the full aspect ratio of the original camera negative as Stanley Kubrick intended. BTW, nice sweater.
