SCROOGED - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to Scrooged! I knew this would be a comedy with Bill Murray being the lead, but I didn't quite expect this to be SO HEARTWARMING at the end! This is now one of my holiday favs! Enjoy!

SCROOGED - Full Length Reaction!

Funny thing about Richard Donner. He works with a lot of the same people. Maybe not always the above the line people, but a lot of subordinate actors. You might recognize a lot of people here in his LETHAL WEAPON movies. Homedude is so awesome that he financed the end titles of the end credits of LW4 himself to honor all the people he's worked with over the years.

Ever since I saw this movie in the theater, when ever I give my dogs a butcher bone I say "it's a bone, you lucky dog!" just like The Ghost of Christmas Past =D

I love this movie. Bill Murray was so perfect. And I have had a crush on Karen Allen (Claire) ever since Raiders of the Lost Ark. Bill Murray is the master at being an endearing asshole. Another underrated, but great movie starring Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges is "Starman". It is an 80s romantic, sci-fi, drama that everyone likes, but also forgets. I have watched this movie almost every Christmas since I saw it in the theater, and I still tear up and sing along at the end.

Scrooge! One of my holiday classics lol. Her name is Claire 😀

Randolph Tirazona

It was really itchy haha. I need to get a better Santa hat!

Oh, yeah, Carol Kane was Miracle Max's wife in "The Princess Bride." She's given many loopy performances over her career. As for "A Christmas Carol," is Addie willing to watch more than one adaptation of the Dickens novella in a single holiday season? She watched one here... and "The Muppet Christmas Carol" was runner-up in the poll. We'll see, I guess.

Happy Monday, Addie! You've now completed the trinity of films me and my dad watch every year on Christmas Eve. "Die Hard," "Gremlins," and "Scrooged." I guess you're now an honorary participant for this year! Bill Murray's "I CARE!" near the beginning is one of my longest standing takeaways from this film. It's just part of my vocabulary after all these years. Now I'll have to turn my attention to convincing you to watch "Kuffs" with Christian Slater and Milla Jovovich. It's one of my favorite movies when I just want to watch something fun. And I've never seen anyone react to it. Although I'm not sure if that's a selling point or a warning as far as reacting to it goes.

And Christmas jumpscares. 🎄

"Starman" is a good choice, but if Addie is going to watch another John Carpenter film, my vote would be for "Big Trouble in Little China." It's one of my dad's favorite movies, so I've seen it a million times and I think it might actually be my favorite John Carpenter movie too.

BubblyRainbows

You're actually right.

You're going about this all wrong. If you want Addie to watch Krampus, you can't sell her by telling her it has frightening scenes. You have to tell her, it has a profound Christmas message about family and having Christmas cheer. Which it does. 🤫

Three years ago, a few friends and I watched this together and when Frankie Angel, Francis, aka Bill Murray, started telling us to sing along we busted out singing happily. The following year we went to see this re-showing in the theater and we couldn’t wait for the ending. Everyone else must have had the same idea cause we got everyone singing at the end! My absolute favorite line that I use just about any chance I get I say, “have you tried using staples?!” There have been only two people who recognized that line. Your reaction was perfect! I hope that scene makes it into the YT edit. Take care of yourself, Addie!!

Billy Dancel

Even I'm wondering why Addie isn't wearing her Santa hat this year.

This is one of my favorite Bill Murray movies. Though I felt he was a little too young to be a Scrooge. They should have used make-up to give him a cranky old man look. That speech Bill gave at the end was totally adlibbed, by the way. Oh! I just recently watched “Violent Night” (2022) for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a pretty good action-Christmas movie. I will add it to my list of Christmas favorites, in the category of “Die Hard”, Lethal Weapon”, “The Long Kiss Goodnight”, etc. Only this time, it is an ACTUAL Christmas movie, no question. It has comedy elements as well. I recommend it for this channel. 🎄

Mr. Writhms

"The bitch hit me with a toaster..." Still funny.

Steve Mercier

Also, I believe this is either the 2nd or 3rd movie this month to have the '51 The Christmas Carol playing in the background at some point. Might be a sign if you haven't watched that version yet ;)

A "rough" breakup. Nice. The Ghost of Christmas Present was played by Carol Kane, who you've seen in The Princess Bride. The Ghost of Christmas Past was played by David Johansen, who was the singer for the New York Dolls in the 70s, and in the 80s he performed under the name Buster Poindexter. And as you rewatch, you'll notice the "Free South Africa" posters occasionally in the background, which will give you some context of the times.

"PG-13 for frightening scenes?! Oh no!" If you really want a PG-13 rated Christmas movie that HAS some frightening scenes, then I recommend Krampus (2015). But don't worry, it actually has some profound messages about family and Christmas cheer, as well as some Christmas jump scares. #KrampusForAddieCounts

Interestingly enough, *3* of Bill Murray's brothers also appear in this movie. His older brother Brian (who you may remember as the groundhog ceremony presenter in "Groundhog Day" and/or as Clark's boss in "Christmas Vacation") plays Frank's father. His younger brothers John and Joel play Frank's brother and one of the guests at Frank's brother's Christmas party, respectively. P.S. No Santa hat this year? 🎅

Ooh. Looks like Donner made three movies back-to-back-to-back.

Alex Tan

Coincidentally, this is the very movie Donner made between the first 2 "Lethal Weapon" movies.

I second Starman (1984) as Addie's third John Carpenter movie. It's a more light-hearted sci-fi movie of his when compared to Halloween (1978) & The Thing (1982), which were both horror movies. #StarmanForAddieCounts

Happy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend. 😊 I love this movie! It's always one of my must-watch Christmas movies that I have to watch every holiday season. And this is one of my favorite Bill Murray films. I agree, Karen Allen will always be Marion from the Indiana Jones movies to me as well. The Ghost of Christmas Present has always been my favorite of the three ghosts in this movie. Carol Kane plays that role so perfectly. Another great movie starring Karen Allen that I highly recommend is the 1984 "Starman", which also stars Jeff Bridges. Definitely looking forward to the rest of this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

Happy Monday, Addie. I'm so glad that you had fun seeing Bill Murray get Scrooged (1988). I'm definitely going to have a Richard Donner double feature with this movie & Lethal Weapon (1987) on Thursday night. BTW, of all the IBC Christmas programs at the start of the movie, I would definitely watch The Night the Reindeer Died & Scrooge (the one that looks like The Manson Family Holiday Special with terrorists, murder and nuclear explosions).
