Our first holiday poll!
Added 2023-12-05 17:00:23 +0000 UTCThank you so much for all of your holiday movie recommendations! I've already been in the Christmas spirit for about a month now, and I can't wait to watch more holiday movies as we get closer to the end of the year :) Help me choose a movie to watch next! You all gave me sooooo many great suggestions, and I can't fit them all on one poll! There will be more holiday polls throughout the month, and some of these movies that don't win will likely show up in a poll again! I can't wait to see what you choose for me to watch next :)

Silent Night, Deadly Night is actually a pretty good slasher. And while I wouldn't call LW shitty, I've been there, done that enough that I'd rather watch something else.

2023-12-07 18:59:29 +0000 UTCI'll take a good movie with vague Christmas connections over a shitty one with more direct Christmas connections any day.

2023-12-07 17:41:31 +0000 UTCThere's something I never get tired of seeing, someone asking a reactor to watch all the movies in a poll, something that I have yet to see actually happen, but keep trying, you little optimists.
Richard Maurer
2023-12-07 14:59:45 +0000 UTCThere are two types of "Christmas" movie The ones where Xmas is a main part of the plot and the ones like LW that just happen to occur at Xmas. imo - the ones that happen to occur at Xmas aren't really Christmas movies but if you want them to be, go for it. That being said I stand by my op because in SN,DN Xmas is integral to the plot, LW, not at all integral to the plot.
Richard Maurer
2023-12-07 14:27:10 +0000 UTCIf it takes place around the holidays, it's on the table, as far as I'm concerned. Besides, along with "Gremlins" and "Scrooged," it's the best title on here.
Byrd N. Hand
2023-12-07 06:01:40 +0000 UTCLethal Weapon as a Christmas movie huh? Silent Night, Deadly Night is literally more of a Christmas movie than LW.
Richard Maurer
2023-12-07 02:01:17 +0000 UTCOnly 1 adaptation of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" per poll, perhaps? This one's got "Scrooged."

2023-12-06 03:07:55 +0000 UTCIt wasn't letting me vote for multiple earlier. Maybe the poll was updated. :)

2023-12-05 21:39:44 +0000 UTCKiss Kiss Bang Bang all the way way! A perfect movie with one of the best screenplays this century.

2023-12-05 20:51:50 +0000 UTC#loveactuallyforaddie. Oh crap not in the list. OK you twisted my arm up my back, Gremlins it is then. ๐

2023-12-05 20:47:29 +0000 UTCIโm waiting to see what the strategic voting, which almost always seems to be done in an attempt to bring about a tie, brings us this time aroundโฆ ๐ looks like Gremlins and Lethal Weapon so far (I voted for Gremlins and Scrooged).

2023-12-05 20:44:02 +0000 UTCBah humbug...

2023-12-05 20:25:54 +0000 UTCI swear guys, Long Kiss Goodnight is great funโฆ (yes, the rest are good too)

2023-12-05 20:21:21 +0000 UTCaww no Muppets Christmas Carol? โน๏ธ

2023-12-05 20:01:17 +0000 UTCit's a cute movie, cute movies are pretty cringe
BNJ
2023-12-05 20:00:22 +0000 UTCCringe and Christmas movie kind of go hand in hand though.

2023-12-05 19:46:46 +0000 UTCLet's see what happens tomorrow. Fingers crossed that she watches Oppenheimer (2023). ๐ค๐ค
Alex Tan
2023-12-05 19:34:39 +0000 UTCI was holding out hope that we'd get either "Oppenheimer" or "Godfather II" from her yesterday, but instead she gave us "Dial of Destiny." ๐คฆโโ๏ธ I'm guessing she'll give us "National Treasure" tomorrow and the winner of this poll on Friday. I can only surmise that the runtimes of those movies have at least partially made her hesitant to do them right now ("Godfather II" is nearly 3ยฝ hours long, "Oppenheimer" is 3 hours, and "Godfather III" is roughly 2 3/4 hours). ๐ค

2023-12-05 19:27:01 +0000 UTCBad Santa!

2023-12-05 18:59:30 +0000 UTCWell, it definitely has some dark moments. Meanwhile, "Gremlins 2" is a total Looney Tunes-style sendup of it.
Byrd N. Hand
2023-12-05 18:49:07 +0000 UTCIt baffles me that "Jingle All the Way" has endured all this time. ๐ค I'll admit it's a bit after my time (I was in my first year of college when it came out), but I remember several scenes being pretty cringe-inducing, particularly when seen through adult eyes. The one positive thing I can say about it is that it was filmed in the Twin Cities, i.e. where I live.

2023-12-05 18:47:50 +0000 UTCHave not seen the Grenlins for over a decade. I rememebr it being just cheesy but cute and funny and full of rascals or something. xD

2023-12-05 18:24:10 +0000 UTCP.P.S. Please convince her to also watch Oppenheimer (2023), since it came in second on her Christopher Nolan poll, two weeks ago. #OppenheimerForAddieCounts Sincerely, Alex Tan
Alex Tan
2023-12-05 18:16:24 +0000 UTCDear Santa Claus: Please convince Addie to react to ALL of the movies in her latest Christmas poll. She has more than enough posting days left in December to make us all happy, wrapped with a big bow. ๐ Sincerely, Mr. Writhms P.S. If she refuses, please leave a โRaiders of the Lost Arkโ boulder-sized lump coal in her stocking this year. ๐๐๐

2023-12-05 18:09:36 +0000 UTCIf you monsters don't vote for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang you're all not invited to my birthday party.

2023-12-05 18:05:26 +0000 UTCYou can vote for multiple :)

2023-12-05 17:51:44 +0000 UTCAs long as she also reacts to the sequels for both movies after the holidays. They'll be the gifts that keep on giving. ๐

2023-12-05 17:27:48 +0000 UTCKiss Kiss Bang Bang is an excellent example of good screenwriting.

2023-12-05 17:11:02 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday, Addie. All are great choices but my votes go for Gremlins (1984) & Lethal Weapon (1987). I also vote for The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) & Violent Night (2022).
Alex Tan
2023-12-05 17:10:26 +0000 UTCViolent Night is awesome!

2023-12-05 17:10:25 +0000 UTCOhhhh Sh** I forgot all about Long Kiss Goodnight!!!! Great movie!!

2023-12-05 17:09:42 +0000 UTCI guess because its a Christmas film, its doing so well.. but 'Jingle All The Way' is not a good film lol. A loved it when I was younger but it didn't hold up well for me. Maybe Addie will like it.. but it's not for me. I'm voting 'Gremlins' and 'Lethal Weapon'.
QuigonJim25
2023-12-05 17:07:39 +0000 UTCI feel like it has to be Gremlins or Lethal Weapon. I wish I could vote for both.

2023-12-05 17:06:18 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday, Addie! ๐ All great holiday movie choices for this first holiday poll. I ended up going with "Scrooged" for this one. Aside from the three(I do count "Ghostbusters: Afterlife")Ghostbusters movies, "Scrooged" is my favorite Bill Murray movie. "Gremlins" is my second choice. Have a great day today. ๐

2023-12-05 17:05:16 +0000 UTCGremlins for sure.
