LOGAN - Full Length Reaction!

Which is why its the best X-men movie and better than most of the MCU.

Joe Mallard

It’s a decent movie. This one is like Joker in the sense once you see the movie it’s ripping off the film itself feels cheaper… And Logan literally includes scenes from the Searchers! Whereas Joker literally sets itself in the 70’s and includes Robert Deniro (King Of Comedy). I know most art is repackaged from other eras, even Winter Soldier uses Robert Redford, the difference for me is WS feels like an MCU film whilst Logan doesn’t really fit into the X-Men franchise

I really hope you give the New Mutants a try, a lot of people hayed it but some do and it dives into the story of Transigen and the kids.

I can smell a western movie poll coming soon

Logan is eXtraordinary - I didn't expect you to cry so soon when first seeing old Xavier, I expected smiles instead of tears. I was my caught by surprise. This movie is based off a comic called Old Man Logan I had an idea that the younger evil Wolverine is the same one from Apocalypse that was freed. I figured that's what the essex corp credit scene was about. Your reaction left me speechless. Im looking forward to your Deadpool 2 and Dark Phoenix reactions soon.

I was thinking, "There is no way I'm going to get emotional this time around. I've already seen this movie before." Damn you, Addie! That was a heart-felt reaction. 😭

Yeah this movie is such a beautiful experience, but man it's heartbreaking. So to explain some stuff that makes a lot of this movie make more sense, but that much sadder. For Logan, there's several reasons as to why his healing has grown so much weaker. For one, the Adamantium that is coating his bones. When you think about it, having metal in your body like that is definitely not good. He essentially has battled Adamantium poisoning ever since the procedure, and his healing has had to work overtime, constantly healing him. So his abilities expired that much earlier, due to his body working nonstop to heal. Another kind of reasoning is of course, age. Logan is just old. He could've lived longer without the metal, but either way, this was inevitable. Lastly, what Doctor Rice said about gene therapy. So this also explains why there weren't any new mutants born in recent years. In the corn syrup that Will Munson talked about when they were at the farm, Transigen had secretly mixed gene therapy with the corn syrup. Corn syrup, is of course, in so many products that people consume. So over time, all mutant genes became suppressed, preventing any mutants from being born. Logan also consumed these products, and this also likely suppressed his own abilities as well. For Charles, a very dark event occurred in Westchester. Charles Xavier is one of the strongest mutants alive. Some of his feats in the comics are insane. He once linked his mind to all people of the planet at once, without the use of Cerebro. So his range is very far. And when a brain like that gets old... and even worse, gets a disease causing seizures like Alzheimers.... thats incredibly dangerous. As he got older, Charles at one point had an intense seizure, that resulted in basically all of the X-Men and really, mutants near him, to die. Thats how powerful he is. And it must be a terrible thing to live with, thinking you were responsible for something like that. X-24 was really terrifying as a presence. They don't focus on it, but Logans worst fear is.... himself. Being that destructive monster that does nothing but kill everything around him. He's been that monster before, and he doesn't ever want to be that again. And when 24 killed Charles and walked down the stairs with Laura..... he saw it. He saw himself, a dark reflection of his worst fears. A mindless, monstrous, nigh unstoppable beast that does nothing but destroy. This movie wrecked me, and its part of the reason I like to stop here with the X-Men movies, and not continue with Dark Phoenix or the New Mutants. It's such a beautiful and perfect end to this franchise and journey we've been on. Deadpool 2 is next! I'm not gonna lie, I actually like that one better than the first, for several reasons. Hopefully that movie can sweep you off your feet as well! I can't wait to see it Addie!

...and if you thought this movie broke your heart then The New Mutants (2020) is gonna make it race because that movie has some horror elements that'll probably scare you. Please be brave, Addie. You go girl.

The Western they were watching in the hotel room, and which Laura referenced at the end, was Shane (1953). I had recommended it previously. Perhaps it will move up in the list now that you know it is Charles-approved 🙂

I’m pretty sure that I got my ticket to see this the minute they were on sale. I didn’t wait to check if any of my friends were going too. I was not going to miss the first showing. (It’s usually the night before close to midnight) than the release date. Logan is in the same category as WALL-E. I didn’t take any comment notes and just watched along with you. I can also watch just your reaction without my own copy and I will still know the scenes as the movie plays. Laura’s scream when she saw Charles will forever shred my heart into countless pieces. Today I noticed that Logan and Charles share similar resting spots. It’s close to some water. Now, like you, I’m crying all over again too. The hopes of a lot of fans is that now since she’s grown up, Dafne Keen/Laura, will reprise her role as X-23 in a possible future movie. Wolverine will always be my favorite character. He was also my first tattoo that I got. I probably mentioned this way back with the first X-Men movie and it seems fitting for his final movie. I’m sure Ollie will be happy to give you some comfort to help console you over this movie. Take care of yourself, Addie!!

It’s just like Yukio said in the wolverine. I saw you die, lying on your back holding your heart in your hand 😭

It's worth pointing out he didn't just kill a "few mutants". He killed the X-Men and hundreds of students at the school. Also worth discussing the fact the bioengineered corn is so prevalent as a food source because the Essex corp was lacing it with mutant suppressing hormones, so they died off or were killed off and that's why that don't exist outside of a lab anymore.

I know I am in the minority but I just didn't like this movie. Not a huge fan of James Mangold I guess.

This film from our understanding is set in the new future created at the end of Days of Future Past where we see Logan wakes up in 2022/2023 to a hologram clock and all the X-Men members alive and well. But as this is a whole new future for Logan he remembers nothing beyond 1973 so Charles has to fill him in on this new timeline of events. People also assumed that this was a new timeline that shares similar elements to the films but I'm pretty sure the director stands by the idea that this film is a sequel to Days of Future Past. Logan is based on two X-Men comics/runs those being Old Man Logan and The Death of Wolverine. Old Man Logan was set in an alternate timeline (Earth-807128) in which villains from across Marvel pretty much defeated the hero's dividing up America into different regions each overseen by a villain. This universes Logan was tricked into killing all the X-Men when Mysterio (Spider-Man villain) casted an Illusion that made the members of the X-Men appear as different Marvel Supervillains who from Logan's point of view were attacking the School, Logan killed them all but soon realised they were the X-Men. Soon after this the villains took over America defeating The Avengers, The Fantastic Four etc. The story of the Logan comic starts Fifty years later while the reveal of Logan killing the X-Men is brought up later in the story within a flashback. The idea of Logan being a older man in appearance comes from this comic book but the event themselves are very different between the comic and the film. Death of Wolverine is apart of the Earth-616 continuity which is Marvel Main Universe since 1939. Pretty much in this storyline a virus from the microverse turned off Wolverine's healing factor, allowing his enemies to kill him. This is all set in the present time so not in the near future like showcased in Logan or the Old Man Logan comic. The idea that Logan dies really comes from this storyline as in the Old Man Logan comic he's indeed star alive. But it's a comic book after all so Logan is brought back to live some time later. But in this movie it seems that Professor X killed a few Mutants which could've lead to the X-Men team disbanding along with the School itself closing down. Also for Legal reasons as Fox only own the rights to X-Men they're no mention of other Marvel characters within this universe so it's solely focused on Mutants. The comic features Hawkeye heavily along with cameos of other Marvel related characters. X-23, Laura Kinney is amazing in the comics she is a mutant artificially engineered using Wolverine's DNA the same as this film. But unlike the film where Logan and Laura meet after the X-Men were disbanded in the comics X-23 tracked Wolverine to the X-Mansion when the X-Men were still active and doing well. She came to eliminate Logan however, Wolverine argued she had been a victim and offered to help her leading to her joining the X-Men. Timeline: X-Men: First Class (1962) X-Men Days of Future Past (1973) X-Men: Apocalypse (1983) Dark Phoenix (1992) Statue of Liberty - 2000s Deadpool (2016) - Going with Release Year Deadpool 2 (2018) - Going with Release Year X-Men: Days of Future Past (2023/2034) Logan (2029) Did not include the original trilogy films as those would've been heavily effected by this new timeline. The whole Statue of Liberty event from X1 is mentioned so that still happened and would explain why Rogue still has her white hair. X2 deals heavily with William Stryker so similar events to that could've happened as well but the whole Phoenix subplot with Scott dying along with Jean being "killed" does not happen. And of course the events of X-Men: The Last Stand never happened as well as they already did a Dark Phoenix event in 1992 within this universe. So pretty much the 2000s and early 2010s of this new timeline is unclear, personally like to think that the X-Men comics we see are depictions of what the X-Men have been doing off screen along with wearing cool classic inspired outfits that may hint at these actually being the outfits the X-Men wore rather than the skin tight leather suits we saw in the original films.

Happy Monday, Addie. Logan (2017) is the most brutal depiction of Wolverine. His bond with Laura (X-23) is also very sweet and his death was heartbreaking. I even like Laura's denim on denim outfit with her red Dr. Martens boots. Next stop, Deadpool 2 (2018).

I’m so glad you finally made it to this one. I adore this film. It’s not just my favorite Marvel movie. It is my favorite movie period. Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen and Patrick Stewart were all phenomenal in this movie. Each of them deserved an Oscar nomination as did the movie.

Adam Grunther

Happy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend. 😊 Here we go!!!! This is one of my favorite in the "X-Men" movie series. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening with a box of tissues on hand. Have a great day today! 😊
