I have to wonder if alt mode accuracy (licensing, etc) is more of a marketing thing in its own right than something that is intended to fulfill what collectors actually want. As Bobby has even mentioned before, there's an unspoken consensus that alt modes don't matter that much (whether hyper toon or not). Timing makes me think that Takara, not yet quite knowing what expectations they were selling to, initially emphasized alt modes, realized that we want robot mode accuracy and soul, and did well with that even before going "oh crap they're Transformers we need to keep that gimmick going to its fullest." Now Takara seems to be going downhill because jack of all trades master of none. Besides, the consumer base has less disposable income. $500+ for Megatron? In this economy? Not me dawg
