I am an artist in my 40's and I've been drawing practically my entire life. I say this because I always felt like the cartoon felt lacking compared to the detailed toys. Obviously, Ironhide and Ratchet looked better in the cartoon, but nearly every other character looked cooler with all the extra details from the toy. It feels like these companies are taking a step back by being so slavish to the cartoon aesthetic. I prefer that first wave of MP cars including Soundwave and MP10 when if felt like we were getting a perfect version of characters that surpassed both the limits of 80s animation and 80s toy design. I pretty much have stopped collecting 3rd party G1 characters because they just don't look like the perfect versions of the characters to me anymore.
