So the cleric at the beginning (🤗)... "Marcus Aurelius Meditations" is a surviving book of his wisdom (it's quoted a lot in the movie. Hannibal quotes it in Silence of dem Lambs too.) Its short and pretty 🔥...worth reading the life lessons of Rome's greatest emperor, if y'all are inclined.

2024-10-15 17:23:22 +0000 UTCThe guy that owns Maximus, legendary actor/drunk Oliver Reed... During filming in Malta Reed went out drinking one (every?) night. He proceeded to drink a bunch of sailors under the table - having (supposedly) three bottle of rum and untold beers himself. He then beat ALL of them at arm wrestling and then his heart exploded. The bar was renamed "Ollie's Last Pub." His scenes were finished with a body double and some very innovative (for the time) CGI. Easy to YouTube "Oliver Reed drunk" and watch some entertaining interviews from the 70's.
