Yes, this helps for sure. For me I like to start with the monsters that have DW stats because the simple presentation actually has a lot of usable info in it. Special Quality's, Instinct, Attacks and Moves. The HP look good as well. For attributes I think the 5, 10, 15 method should work well. Especially for doing it quick and on the fly. Many times I won’t need the attributes unless the monster is making a save. For the way I run Cairn the DW stats are already 80% of the way there.

That’s a good question! I should maybe write up a more detailed conversion guide at some point, that could be useful. Damage will probably convert well from LL/OSE, although if a monster has multiple attacks, that should turn into advantage, i.e. roll all its damage dice but only use the highest one. Like using two weapons. Dungeon World HP seems close to the ratings in Cairn. If you want to roll a die for monster hp, you can just eyeball the relative toughness of a monster to get a die size: 1d4 = weak, 1d6 = human, 1d8 = tough, 1d10 = supertough, 1d12 = absolute unit. When I run old school games now, I let the PCs have 2 dice of hp and most monsters only get 1 die of hp, which seems to work nicely for a smaller party, if the players want to win the occasional fight but also aren’t averse to running away. Runecairn is obviously based on Cairn and also gives PCs 2 dice of hp (Vigour + Vitality) but its monster hps don’t seem that far off from Cairn. They are like DW but slightly lower in some cases, so possibly having group monsters default to 6hp and solitary monsters default to 12hp may both be a little high. Typical armour conversion from AC to damage reduction is Leather equivalent = 1, Chain = 2, Plate = 3. Cairn gives 1 for shields, but also caps total damage reduction at 3, and lots of monsters that don’t actually wear armour have armoured-level AC scores. So we could either assume that a shield can’t stack with plate armour, or that Leather/Chain = 1, and Plate = 2. Monsters don’t have attribute scores in OSE or B/X, so that may be a problem if you’re just using Things From Beyond. Releases with LL or TNU stat blocks have attribute scores, where you can either ignore the ones you don’t need, or average two scores together (like Fer and Hth for Str, or Wis and Cha for Wil), but that requires you to look them up. Another way is to just decide whether the monster has a bad stat, average stat, or good stat, and give it a 5, 10, or 15, respectively, which is what I usually do when running monsters that don’t have attribute scores. Does that help?
