Catching up on the Andor uploads, I look forward to these and wsa bummed I fell behind. I hate Syril; he is such a boot-licking, imperial, fanboy. After meeting his mom, piecing together his history a bit, and seeing how she treats him even as an adult, I can see how he just wants to be accepted, to feel potent, and in control. i have watched this show an unhealthy number of times and it still awes me how they make us care, and almost sympathize, with characters as basely reprehensible as Syril and Dedra. Great characters, shitty humans.

The day changes week to week, but we do watch them a little in advance!

Chandra

OMG! Today is MONDAY!!!! Hey, I get to watch these on Monday, is it any of my business what day you watch the episodes? A week before? Over the weekend? Just curious.

I also have a hard time not bingeing the entire series! haha

Chandra

I didn't catch them talking about the quotas, thanks for the heads up! Cassian's arrest at the end makes a little more sense now (still terrible though).

Maarva's story arc is amazing and through it she leads Cassian to where he needs to be. Fiona Shaw gets the very best lines in season one.

This episode has my favourite line from the entire series. “That’s just love, nothing you can do about it” Hauntingly beautiful

Good stuff. FYI the 3 episode arc is definitely a thing but e7 was more of a bridge episode. 8-10 is definitely a 3 ep arc, and one of the best. S2 is consistent with 4x 3 episode arcs. Loving your reaction so far! 🍻

First, I'm glad I finally caught up to you guys. I binged the last few episodes up to this point, and now it's gonna be kinda agonizing waiting for the next watch-along. I will exercise restraint though. 😭 Second, I love shows like this that show both sides of social and political scuffles. Hard to know who to root for, because everyone is an individual and, yet, both sides have people that are being manipulated by systems that may or may not have their best interests at heart and having ulterior motives that may or may not work to benefit everyone. Of course, WE know the Empire is bad, but we rarely see the individuals within that system. ;)

Sure, Luthen was right, but so was Mothma.

"If you can't sacrifice your conscience, then surrender and be done with it."

One of my favorite episodes! Its hard not to feel a little sympathy for Syril, after meeting his mother. She's awful. The fallout from the Aldhani raid is felt everywhere. The Empire has gone ballistic. And regular citizens are inspired. Luthen was right. And looming in the background is Dedra Meero. That woman is a bloodhound!

I’ve heard someone give her the nickname “Grumpy Cat”. I thought it was perfect. So many people mispronounce her name that it doesn’t phase me anymore. I know who they’re referring to.

If you haven’t noticed, a lot of what they talk about in the ISB Supervisor Conference Room is detention quotas. Dedra had been previously complimented by Major Partagaz for exceeding the quotas in her Sectors. So the Empire isn’t worried about catching criminals, they’re worried about how many people are being arrested. So getting arrested for merely appearing suspicious is very possible. You were so happy to see Bee again. He’s such a great little droid. Almost like a dog that can speak. This was a bit of a stand alone episode. The next three episodes are the next arc for Cassian.

This show has already taken two not-very-well-realized characters - Mon Mothma and Cassian - and turned them into two of the most interesting characters in Star Wars. The power of good writing!

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, Dedra's supervisor, Major Lio Partagaz, is portrayed by actor Anton Lesser, who was also in Game of thrones as Qyburn, the defrocked Master who... Provided medical care to the Mountain for Cerci Lannister. Also, Her name isn't "Deirdre" it's Dedra. I remember the pronunciation of her name by thinking of the dead look in her eyes, "Dedra Deadeye" is my nickname for her 🤣
