I woke up to news that someone had discovered an AI trained completely on my work. I checked it out, and yeah it was undeniable. Some pieces still had morphed traces of my signature left over (shown above). Some pieces were rough, but some looked like finished pieces of mine. Some drew things like hands better than I can. It was a very disheartening start to my morning.
I sent in an e-mail and it got swiftly taken down. While that was good, nothing is stopping someone from doing the same thing down the line, and I know that.
If you like an artist enough to train a whole AI with their work, then stop and think for a second. My art is 20+ years of me learning and practicing and I know it's silly smut but it's also a reflection of myself. To see that fed into a machine to make soulless copies of my style, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, and then on top of that seeing the comment above there too... That comment made me feel like shit. It made me cry all morning.
What's gonna make me want to keep creating? What's gonna make any artist want to spend several hours pouring their heart into a piece, when this is how we're being treated.
Anyway, of course I gotta still try to be one step ahead. I'm gonna try my best to not let this get to me any more than it has. I may be changing some things up soon to make my content less exploitable by AI. I'm not even sure what I mean by that yet, but we'll see.
Now I know you guys aren't those guys. You guys are the reason I can wake up and do what I love to do. Please continue to support real artists in any way that you can. Thank you and thanks for reading...

The neural network is also supposed to replicate a style, so it can never be better than it, since it would then fail its goal. So that person is wrong from an artistic AND a technical standpoint. (also me when patreon decided I was going to send the reply early)

For a human eye the noise is invisible, but for AI it can be fatal and can cause it to generate garbage when trained on it. The neural networks are trained and learn to recognise patterns in images, much like humans; It's trying to replicate one after all. It then uses those patterns to create something similar. However, since noise tends to be unpredictable, the neural network can cause it to recognise the wrong patterns, or none at all, which is what results in garbage images.

They might emulate great rendering etc but they can never emulate the life force of a real piece like yours. Except that it still feels dead or like wallpaper, maybe we should be grateful that can still tell the difference. I'm so sorry this happened to you :( I recently had a bad situation where I commissioned an artist and ended up receiving traced AI--it sucks to try to support someone and have wool pulled over your eyes. I'm really hoping the AI "bubble" pops sooner rather than later.

You've made some amazing original characters, and that's something an AI can't do, it can only blender and regergitate. We're here for your art, but we're also here for you, the person behind it.
