Had a bit of free time and since I still have marvelous subscription, I made a simple outfit based on random image I found on google. The side ties are a bit too tin but I realized it a bit late. It happened because I subdivide it in zbrush but totally forgot to save the morph. Since I don't really want to redo the whole thing, I just let it be.

If you want to make a thick clothing, then you need to weld it together after you finish the design in marvelous. You can use any 3d software to weld the overlapped edges together. This will remove the gap between different meshes surface. Vam doesn't handle layered surface well in sim mode(vam doesn't have self collision for the clothing at the moment), this is why I almost never make thick clothing, rather I use fake thick clothing where everything is actually just single surface but I add detail on top of it to create fake thickness. Baking the detail is an important step to make sure that the details is still there once you sim it in vam. The baking will also let you have the ao map, curvature map, and other maps that you can use to add small details in your texture map. Long story short: to remove gap->weld the edges together in 3d software (I use blender). To not lose the fold details-> bake the details(including the normal map). If you still have problem, feel free to pm me on discord or patreon.

My flow is Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter then DAZ. First I can't get any thickness, imports into VAM as a thin mesh. Second it all looks great until I import into VAM, then if I SIM it I lose mode of the fold details. I tried added a zbrush step but still no luck. If I try and import thick items into VAM is just makes each side a mesh with a gap in-between. Do you have any suggestions.

Marvelous designer for the base, detailing in zbrush, and texturing-baking in substamce painter. You might need blender or other 3d software for other acceso.

What programs are you using to create cloths?
