Disenchanted: The Start of a Horror Movie

It starts as all bad ideas do…with Theo.

A Halloween party at a human college frat sounded like a bad idea when it was pitched, but you went along with it. Everyone did. A fun night of drinking and pretending your inhuman traits are just neat life-like costumes? It’s not like you get out much. What could go wrong?

Apparently a lot.

You never really acknowledged the fact that being haunted by a wraith means that there are most certainly others out there. You never thought you’d come face to face with another.

Turns out your wraith is particularly friendly. This one, however, is not so much.

It looms before you, separating you from the door of the garage with its flickering form. A spectral vision of horror with a gaping maw and bloodied nubs for fingers, shuddering and moaning in pain. It’s almost inhuman; you wish it was. Maybe it would make the gore of it less stomach churning.

“I cannot speak to it,” Your wraith mumbles nervously, much more whole and shifting nervously next to you.

“I don’t think it wants to be spoken to,” You offer as consolation, not taking your eyes off the shadowy form.

Then it shrieks. Horrible and loud and almost enough to make you wretch as the sound sinks its claws into your brain and doesn’t let go. You stumble back, eyes wide, as your own wraith lets out a wail nearly just as loud. That’s not good, you know distantly; you wraith wailing has never been good.

The cacophony of sound reaches a peak as you begin to grasp for you magic. You summon the power to your fingertips, flickering and persistent, ready to lash out at the abomination-

The door swings open, music from the party inside suddenly blaring into your space, and you see the blurry image of a face through the body of the ghastly figure.

“What the hell is going on in here?” A familiar, incredulous voice asks.

You’re relieved and horrified all at once. On one hand, at least you’re not alone now. On the other…this thing just acquired a new target.
