I'm about 6 months late on all these videos, but I'll ask my question regardless if someone else has asked it before me: What was the "Gang of four"? what did they do, and why did their popularity change so much?

After all, to import opium into China one would have to have much more opium where that came from - in the Western countries, and indeed, opium dens were legal for a very long time in Europe and the US. Nobody forced China to consume opium, only to allow importing it, but without a market for it it wouldn't matter. Then there's that fun fact that opium dens in the US were banned not out of caution, but to target Chinese immigrants. Is there some kind of higher susceptibility of Han Chinese to opium addiction or smth? Like alcohol face flush? If such a factor indeed exists, then China trying to produce drugs to poison the West is like trying to make everyone else sick by drinking milk when you are the most lactose intolerant of the bunch. And needless to say, building an export only industry in the high corruption environment is impossible, so drugs WILL be consumed both sides of the border. It's like they're waging an opium war on themselves this time.
