Announcement: I'm Back!

Hi all!
I’m back from my little mini vacation. It was very relaxing actually; I rented a beachside lodge and stayed there for a week. Explored nature, learned how to surf (I use the term learn loosely), and caught up on a lot of books and webtoons I previously didn’t have time to read. Also built up a nice backlog for Ace of Capes so that feels extra good.

But I did miss posting, and I’m ready to get back into it!.

So, what to expect?

As mentioned, starting tomorrow, we will now be on a M-Th schedule with occasional Friday posts. I’m aiming to drop a Friday chapter once every two weeks but that will depend largely on if I’m able to keep updating my backlog as I post. If anything, it will most likely be once every month to be honest. Also to note, these coming chapters will have a little less slice-of-life and a little more action as we edge towards the climax of the series. Additionally, as we open up the wider world we’ll see more perspectives from other relevant characters, although not a lot of full chapter interludes. Maybe just a scene here and there. Lexie will remain the driving factor of the narrative.

Another thing to note! While reading books to prepare for the academy arc, my ADHD brain actually thought up another story that takes place in sort of the same multiverse as Ace of Capes, but is a whole different story. It’s a medieval regression magic academy book with an archmage male MC, complicated noble-ish family, a set of trials and an overarching mystery.  I would describe it as a bit of WoT and Harry Potter, if the perspective was not on chosen one Harry but was on a character who became Dumbledore’s apprentice. The setting is medieval England before the 100-year-war and the magic system is based on Roman mythology and chess.

Also involves dungeons because I like dungeons.

I tried to put it off until I was done with Ace of Capes, but ended up writing a few chapters anyway, just to give my brain a break. I find writing two stories at once is ironically good for my mental health and productivity, because any time I feel like I’m a little burned out on Ace of Capes, I just switch to that one. Will not be putting it out anytime soon, but I am looking for alpha and beta readers if anyone is interested. So let me know in the comments if you'd be up for reading it, and I can send over the google docs to you in chat. I would like in-depth feedback on the vibe, the characterization, the engagement, whatever comments you have really.

Anyway, thanks for being here! It’s great to be back and posting. I’m super excited for what’s to come and hope you are too.

PS: I know I promised 3 more shorts over the break which I couldn't deliver on, but I will post a few weekend shorts to make up for it :)

Also finally linking the discord.

Thanks!

Kayday.

Yes, I've heard that! I've also heard the same from a few other authors, and it's been working for me so far, I can't lie. Thanks and I'm glad to be back!

Awesome! I've always appreciated your proofing feedback and would love your thoughts either way. I'll send it in the chat when it's ready, probably some time this week :) And yeah, taking breaks is difficult I think because there's the guilt aspect, because you feel like you're being unproductive and you could be doing more, but it's a necessary refreshment.

Good to have you back! I also understand the need to switch it up. If you have seen any of Brandy Sands talking about how he does his work, he switches between books as a way of avoiding burning out on any one story.

I'd like to be in on beta-reading the other story. I'm better at proofing than analysing writing, but I'm not incapable of the latter. Good to know you can take breaks - there's writers who don't seem to know how.
