Dec22 sketches

Happy New Year! 🎊

I'm sad because I missed the Halloween deadline before, and I've also missed the Christmas deadline now, due to lack of motivation. πŸ˜” Here's where I got to:

Other than that, here's a random Lize sketch:

And the other Ririe sketches mentioned in last month's post, which I didn't update:

I feel like I owe some finished arts after this many sketches. Some of the ideas are good. 😭 Focus is always the problem, this month particularly on real life stuff. It also might've been a mistake to have tried and forced the Christmas art through.

As a final note though, I started a big secret project...! It's real scary to commit to it because there are several major steps, and if any of them break then the project is broken. But I've mostly completed the first stage which is the planning and prototyping stage, which gives me a good detailed idea of what the final outcome should be like and what is the work left to do (project scope is a very big concern, as I'm only one person who's new to a lot of things and has other commitments). But whatever happens, whether it succeeds or fails, I should have something to show (a report and maybe a prototype) in a few months' time.

Here's a very early concept sketch that I've already moved away from (mainly because it's too much work to flesh them all out and bring them together into something cohesive). But I like most of their designs and I might draw them as independent characters or maybe tie them back to something bigger at some point.

I have an artist friend. I recommended the same. To try going full blown expert level on art difficulty and realistic detail (or even just redrawing a picture or something in the room) on rare occasions (something like 4-5 times a year) with drawings that take 8 hours for an expert but 20-30 hours for an amateur level; drawing those about 2 hours per day (possibly in 2 sessions of 1h). In the beginning he didn't get it. In the end he didn't get it. When I went through his art, outside that difficult one, on the before vs after; then he saw how actually... The more recent ones are WAY better. So I wonder if that would help you too.

> I started a big secret project...! Your project looks like some sort of game or interactive thing. In my opinion, that seems full of great intentions but, depending on how fleshed out you are in your work, I think maybe drawing difficult stuff. The kind that would require a LOT of undo in your drawing software would be better help for starters. I think you are still not confident enough in yourself. I believe seeing what you can REALLY do can brighten you.

> I feel like I owe some finished arts after this many sketches True... I'd be lying if I'd tell otherwise. I do like you have some stuff to update us with!

Thank you for the sketches! > It also might've been a mistake to have tried and forced the Christmas art through. Eh... Yeah... You got a point there. It's too hard to commit to those timed events when life keeps you busy.
