Friday Rambles 2024-05-24
Added 2024-05-25 08:20:50 +0000 UTCOkay, we're back! I'm at my big ol' desktop rig again, with my big ol' monitor, and good ol' Windows. There really is no place like home, as they say.
I arrived late yesterday afternoon, and today did a lot of housekeeping stuff, like unpacking, picking up and sorting through 2 months worth of mail, washing 2 months worth of fine desert sand off my car, restocking the fridge, so on and so forth. Tomorrow I'm going to the post office to urgently send a 2 month late payment. Good thing I sorted my mail today!
On the flight I watched "Everything Everywhere All At Once" and "Oppenheimer" and a part of "Suzume". Good movies. Everything Everywhere All At Once was very interesting to me. I'm too unlearned to explain why I liked it in a way that doesn't make me sound too unlearned, but I liked it. l I found it interesting that you can immediately tell Oppenheimer is a Christopher Nolan film, and that Suzume is a Makoto Shinkai film. Basically an observation that art made by artists has distinct and recognizable voices and styles. I'm hoping my games develop their own unique hcnone voice too. If nothing else, I hear my visual style is recognizable :)
The entire row behind me was a family of travelers coughing up their lungs the entire flight, so I'm fully expecting to have caught something. I already kinda feel crappy due to the jet lag. Maybe I should just go to bed now.
I've put on my project manager hat now that I'm able to do some real work, and I'm planning my work "cycles" for the next few weeks. I found Trello wasn't effectively organizing all the different things I have going on, so I did some research and found a tool called linear.app. It's like a very light Jira, with good variety views to visualize the work and scope of all my projects, including timelines and a nice board view to ease my Trello withdrawal. It has a concept called "cycles" which are basically agile sprints for focusing work to a specific period of time, so I know exactly what I'm working on this week and the estimated workload based on task size and priority. Next week is the "Money Cycle" and I'm going to be working almost exclusively on finishing stickers and drawing stupid Skye faces to remind people that I exist on twitter, and relaunching my shop. The week after that is the "Gamedev Cycle" where I finally finish my omake outline once and for all.
short update. sorry. But I'm excited to get some work done finally. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks for your support, as always. See you next week!
