Learning to set up animated hands with custom models

NomaiVR had custom animated hands, but that was all set up by artum. Until now my attempts at rigging hand models for VR poses ended poorly, mostly because I gave up quickly and always had some other more important features to implement.

In Stanley Parable there are no visible hands in most of the game, but there are some hand models present for some specific sections. I could have saved a lot of time by just using any rigged hand models, but thought I'd take this chance to learn how to do it myself. The end result still needs work, but it's looking pretty good.

I also included some gifs from failed attempts. There were some even scarier-looking earlier versions, but I didn't capture those. I might make a video just dedicated to this subject, the whole process of taking hand models from the game, and using them for animated VR hand poses.

I'll also probably end up doing this for Firewatch soon, now that I've got the process down.

That does look really good! I'd love to see a video about that process, sounds really interesting.
