2026-02-21 17:51:10 +0000 UTCI understand the first writer and their feelings about drag, and it likely isn’t for them if they find it so unsettling. No one should have to be put in situations where they feel uncomfortable. However, it’s important to remember that trans women historically were less likely, or even able, to trasition as they do today. So drag bars became the only place where non-cis people could express their gender. A good portion of the people called drag queens from 40, 50, 60+ years ago would likely identify as trans by today’s standards, because the language, understanding, laws, and society wasn’t as permitting as they are today. So staying that drag queens are appropriating trans identity erases/forgets/rewrites a lot of the history of trans people. My authority: Im a trans man who studied LGBTQ issues in college.

2026-02-20 01:06:05 +0000 UTCAs a trans woman myself I get the mail. Personally I know fully well that Drag is performance, but in a way it also ups my dysphoria. Now that's partly because reichwingers will put drag queens and trans women in the same category, but personally I feel appalled as well. In a way it feels like my identity gets joked about and put through the dirt. I'm not gonna blame drag queens for it, but you can't escape it. It will always bleed into things.
