Paraphilias and Sexual Fetishes (2017 Rerun)

One area of distress from a person's personal standpoint is being unable to perform or finish in the sexual task without the paraphilic part there. You mentioned how if it was compulsive it could lead to issues and how shame could as well, but this is another version of how it could lead to distress. Taking the example of the cantaloupe from the show if the individual really wants to be with a person but can only get excited or complete with a cantaloupe present or there. It could cause them distress because of the dissonance of what is desired (to be another person) but the inability to do so. Not mention even if they found a person who was okay with this. There could be distress because now in order to have a fun night a cantaloupe must always be on hand. Can't spontaneously, on vacation, just have a fun night. As no cantaloupe would mean no completing or proceeding for one partner. The distress caused from the above could be why it would be classified as a disorder. Opposed to atypical. Where the cantaloupe might bring better or more exciting fun, but isn't required in order to finish. I'm certain you guys have though of this but it is a form of distress that isn't mentioned in this video and that could result in someone seeking help for a paraphilic disorder.
