As a lawyer I always enjoy Kirk’s analysis of legal proceedings. It’s pretty remarkable how astute he is about the legal system even if I have a few quibbles on the margin.
For this particular episode it was interesting to compare the legal ethics of a lawyer vs therapist. We also have different considerations when doing joint representation (analogous to couples therapy) but it would be VERY clear that we would be breaching legal ethics if we took the side of one of the parties like this, even though the rules of confidentiality might differ. We have obligations to handle conflicts of interest in addition to confidentiality.

I really appreciate this episode as a novice counsellor. I’d love to hear more of these case studies, ethical conundrums and your unpacking of these case studies very helpful thank you so much.

If you really believe the child is in danger, you make a mandatory report. You don't jump into legal proceedings with no qualifications to do so

The other day I shut the front of my winter coat in the trunk of a car when I was closing it. I yanked it out, but the zipper got mangled and I couldn’t open it to get the coat off and the “GET IT OFF ME” feeling was very real until I remembered I could just take it off over my head…
