Berto's attempt at guru-like hypnotic luring was just so compelling 🤣.

I just listened to a podcast called “decoding the gurus” about Keith Rainiere. They played some segments of a dialogue between Alison Mack and KR and analyzed the way KR creates this confusing fog, pulling in smart-sounding concepts and putting Mack on the spot by asking her to justify why she’s having totally understandable reactions to things. It was so helpful to see how that “guru-style” can lead people to believe they have to work hard to understand the truth that the guru is talking about, instead of being in touch with their own thoughts, and being able to respond and discuss ideas. I think it would be interesting if Kirk looked at real footage of similar (seemingly low-key) controlling dialogues, to help us understand how this manipulation works in real time. I feel like especially as a student I tend to idealize and seek approval from teachers, and I worry about losing direction and being overly influenced by an idealized teacher, so I’m trying to learn more about warning signs of manipulative tactics
