This is so beautiful

Great episode as usual! And thank you for your discussion of Over Control (OC) & Radically Open DBT. I’m a therapist w/an integrated humanistic/existential approach who’s also trained in RODBT, no expert tho’ but wanted to add to the question re:feeling numb—in the model OC folks have a Nature of high threat sensitivity (I’m being brief, there is more to the Nature piece) , added to by all the Nurture elements you named, resulting in OC coping styles which can lead to more time spent in an overwhelmed state where you feel numb. Intense rumination or self-induced starvation, e.g., can lead to this overwhelmed state becoming engaged, which can reinforce those behaviors as one can feel calmer in an overwhelmed nervous system shutdown state. The therapy focuses in part in helping clients enter social safety zone, feel calmer but not shut down, add new learning in that zone, signal to others more openness & ultimately feel more connected to their own feelings & to others. Radicallyopen.net is the official site to learn more, find a trained provider, etc.

I just wanted to mention for the past couple of episodes I have been able to hear the birds in your background and it makes me really happy! Birds have become a huge symbol in my therapy journey. My therapist often prompts me to listen to the birds to help ground me when I am dissociating
