I’m just listening to this having disclosed having BPD to clients but not to my family. It was immensely helpful to clients to know that you can have BPD, be understood, and keep living in my experience. A lot of folks have had negative experiences with therapists not understanding or treating them suspiciously. I also have found that families in which someone has BPD have benefitted or even become more hopeful about their loved one’s future from this disclosure. I was taught in my initial education experience that it was bad or even dangerous to self disclose almost anything, and now I’m back in school and learning differently and it’s such a relief to be taught discernment over fear around these things.

My good friend had a therapy appointment yesterday with someone she was hoping would be a good fit. She's a single mom to a toddler and is having a hard time with him not sleeping well. The therapist seriously suggested that she put her child in foster care so that she can get things back in order for herself. What do you do in situations like this? Report?
