TToB: Half-Asian/Half-White people are perceived (by both full-Asians in China and full-Whites in the US) as more trustworthy, intelligent, and attractive. Tough or Bluff???

Comments

It's true in my case. I am half Central Asian, but I have a lot of my Swedish/Germanic father's features. Others in my family don't though. I think the one's that have more Asian features, people in the US think they are Asian.

It’s TOUGH! Yay Hapas! But I guess this means I’m not as smart as you think I am? (DOI: 10.1177/1474704924123862)

I’m on the fence with this because I’m 100% Asian, but I present as ethnically ambiguous, and my experience has been mixed. Some Asian people don’t see me as Asian enough; white people don't see me as white-passing, and people of color don’t see me as colored enough. On good days, I benefit from being ethnically ambiguous. On my bad days, nobody likes me, and they’re confused about me. I have had more bad days than good days lately, though.

In east Asia there is a pretty strong beauty standard favoring lighter skin and hooded eyes. I’m kinda split on this one because there is also the phenomenon of feeling like you don’t belong to either culture and don’t quite fit in

Nearly all advertisement in Asia feature half-Asian, half-white models. And if we extrapolate that people tend to attribute other positive attributes to attractiveness, this would be tough.

I’m guessing it’s bluff and the opposite is true. They’re seen as outsiders by both groups. Not Asian enough and not white enough. But I know nothing

I live in Asia and my husband is Asian and I'm white. I can see this being true because whenever I speak to people (foreigner or local) they always say that half-Asian, half-white children are the cutest.
