I'm a new member so am catching up on this deep dive and its so interesting! The study of the journey to the right is fascinating and I think topical for people we all know in our own lives too. I am definitely seeing it more and more with people I know, Would love to hear a deep dive on Russel Brand as he has a very interesting life with previous drug addictions, public redemption and now criminal charges.

It is so interesting when you describe Twitter as somewhat of a replacement for a friend for Elon. With that in mind the whole Thailand situation becomes extremely resemblant to his childhood trauma when his friend lured him towards the bullies. He was encouraged by his "friend" Twitter to inject himself into that rescue and once he gave in, he got "jumped" by the crowd.

40:00 when I was younger, I used alcohol to give me temporary self esteem. It's better to go to therapy to develop true self esteem.

38:00 He had to fight for food as a child? What was the name of that horrible school?

Li Ro

Same for me actually 🖤

Do you have a hyperlink for this?

Just as a side note, I appreciate the breaks not being breaks for the listeners anymore. I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but these podcasts are a rare safe and relaxing place for me and as a person who suffers from insomnia, they sometimes help me to calm down enough to fall asleep. The music, although l loved it and sometimes listen to Bread knife incident, woke me back up. Anyway, how ever, which ever style or form you choose to continue your content is always top notch and I'm extremely lucky for finding your channel.

1:16:00 Canada never proposed this is a law...that was the story Jordan Peterson told.

It's a gradual process, and just like with traditional cults, I think even the most reasonable and intelligent people can get sucked in, if the circumstances are right. Yes, for famous people, there is a financial component, but I've seen it with regular people in my life for whom there is no monetary incentive to go down that route. In fact, their lives have become harder and they have lost contact with friends and family in some cases

I used to listen to Dr. Laura S. I remember being confused why she became so harsh.

I really enjoyed this deep dive a lot. I would like to respectfully disagree on the internet being mean as the reason why many public personalities do an extreme right wing shift. If you truly believe in something like “social democracy is better for humanity” I don’t understand how some deranged online comments would make you change your mind. It’s just that many of these “leftist” political commentators are doing this for the ego boost and monetary gain. They pivot when it’s beneficial to them personally.

Mina

I am so glad you talked about the phenomenon we've seen in recent years with people, very publicly, going down the right-wing conspiracy theory rabbit hole. Add J.K. Rowling to the list - once known for her beloved children's books, now a famous transphobe who also hangs out with nazis. Recently, Ana Kasparian from The Young Turks has started her journey to the right. And I used to really like her and TYT. I also used to be a fan of Russell Brand, mostly as a comedian. It's really upsetting for me to see. But the worst thing is, I've seen it with people in my personal life. It seemed to get a big boost in 2020 when everyone spent too much time indoors, scrolling social media. I think social media addiction is a real and very sinister thing. It seems to me that it's basically an algorithm that feeds on people and draws them into a cult. Clearly, it happens to famous people but I've seen it happen so rapidly with people I used to be friends with and now never hear from anymore, apart from seeing their posts on Facebook about weird conspiracy theories. Has anyone done a study on this?

Louise

Berto, I like the schwifty shirt! (Rick & Morty I assume)
