Im late to the game listening to this deep dive but its been so interesting! I believe it might have come out after this was recorded, but im curious if Dr Kirk listened to the podcast "Elon's Spies" by Tortoise Media. They interviewed Vernon. From his account, he was one of the very first people involved in the rescue in any capacity. He made a list of people he could think of who would be instrumental to the rescue, reached out to them, and they came over to Thailand. Him and the team he assembled approached the government with their plan and from the way Vernon talks it sounds as though the government didnt know if they should take them seriously, but Vernon convinced them. Vernon and the others he assembled were the ones that went down and found the boys. It sounds like Vernon and his team may have even been the ones that reached out to the anesthetist that helped them. Vernon says he was "proud to be a part of it", but apparently the other divers say that if it weren't for him they wouldn't have rescued them (presumably because Vernon was the one who took the initiative to bring together the team that eventually managed the rescue, not to mention contributing to that team himself). I can imagine that given the fact that he had to push to be taken seriously and then how instrumental he actually was, combined with the stress of the preceding weeks, he would have felt very frustrated to have been asked about Elon. Whats interesting though is that the Tortoise podcast does portray it as though Elon just decides on a whim that he should do this. They dont mention that he was ASKED, or that he was told to keep working on it!

I'm only listening to this deep dive now but it is enlightening as to what has happened more recently. Thank you Kirk, Berto and the PiS team for such a thorough work

There is definitely a movie made about it (if not more than one), 2022, Thirteen Lives with Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell. Very good one, but Berto, don't watch it. I wasn't claustrophobic, but I am now, after watching this movie 😬😅 extremely stressful, shows well how terrible the situation was and how amazing all the people who tried to help were.

I was looking up the rescue while listening. The dive back out of the cave was 5 hours!!!!

Caitlin Ouellette

I love Humberto but he gets a tiny bit ahead of the story revealing Vernon’s similarities with Erol and the pedo comment and the outcome of the lawsuit. Maybe it’s assumed that all the deserving listeners already knows what happened?

100% in most cases emotional and verbal abuse has longer lasting effects than the physical abuse. This is not to downplay physical abuse at all-but verbal and emotional abuse lead to long term poor self esteem and can lead to all kinds of consequences.

I just got to the point where you explained that the kids were anesthetized when they were rescued. That's freaking incredible. Just wild.

And right on cue Elon makes am appearance at a Trump rally this weekend
