My partner has been diagnosed with BPD by two separate psychiatrists, and we’ve been together since mid 2020. We have developed a new vocabulary to understand each other. Two big concepts we have: the equal and opposite rule, and series / parallel observations. The equal and opposite rule is based on two hemispheres of the brain. We can think Left brain to right and right brain to Left. We don’t need to know what the hemisphere are actually doing, only that there is a way of thinking that runs precisely equal and opposite to the way we are currently thinking. Series and parallel observations means that sometimes we are observing our partners over time, so it’s a series of events of one specific trait. Other times we are observing only in one instant of time but across multiple traits. Understanding these two concepts made a significant contribution for us.

2024-10-03 16:46:52 +0000 UTCI haven't had money for therapy, but I've done a lot of self-reflection and research, and ive seen a lot of symptoms of BPD in myself, and some symptoms of HPD in my partner from this episode. There was definitely love-bombing in the beginning of our relationship - on both sides, but we've been together 3 years now, and I think we've grown to genuinely love eachother. So is it possible to have these personality disorders and have a healthy relationship? Cause we are having a hard time communicating right now, but we'll be starting couples therapy soon
