The Psychology of Elon Musk (Chapter 8 - Cool AF Rogan Weed)

Comments

I came in here to comment that I believe that the reason why Musk, Humberto and Kirk feel comfortable leaving meetings is that they are men.

Suzanne

1000% right about Wolf of Wall Street , Kirk!!

Omg--the tangent about meetings and people who don't know what they are talking about and how it can spiral out of control--that conversation was absolute GOLD, I was literally laughing out loud. I can relate to y'all so much 😂 Love both of your personalities. Thank you for all the time and energy you put into your content, and for being so real with your audience.

I have a different experience on the meetings subject. I'm guessing it depends on the field, but I've experienced that it's mostly people with power and/or people who are comfortable and confident (or included) enough to speak their minds in any context. I'm sure some meetings are unnecessary, but I do believe just because I personally don't find the meeting interesting or useful, my colleagues could think differently. It also helps to make sure everyone feel like they are part of the team. I do think however than having a trained facilitator is key. Someone should be leading the meeting so that things run smoothly and stuff gets done.

Working in corporate for the last ~6ish years I relate to the frustration of unproductive meetings. However, I think Elon’s “get up & walk out” email is giving people, particularly men, a pass to be a jerk if they don’t perceive the meeting as worth their time, even if it is. I often experience men in the workplace who don’t like the content of my meetings because they don’t directly benefit to their KPIs (I work in compliance), and they express that displeasure & it’s difficult for me to get my job done. I’m sure Elon’s email resulted in even more dismissal and disrespect of women in an already male-dominated workplace & industry.

Dutch person here! I'm always so confused about how so many people look at weed. I sometimes wonder if it could be related to race and associations with certain demographics (at least in America maybe) not saying it is, but I just wonder if that could have influenced wrong stereotypes. I'm living in Sweden at the moment and here aswell, people truly believe it's a gateway drug for everyone. It's insane to me. I never drink, I sometimes smoke weed. (Like my grandmother did 😂) and am a primary school teacher. Most parents at my school would probably try to get me fired if they knew this, truly. It's wild to me.

Now they tell me 😂

I don't like meetings when there are people I don't like there. My work environment isn't great, so I find a spot I won't be seen and listen to the music. It's immature but hearing people talk bs isn't easy. I try to pay attention to whatever work is at hand, but tune out the rest. There were a couple of times I got caught up in meetings without earbuds, so now I make sure I have them charged and ready in case I need to go to my happy place.

this idea of a person not progressing past age 13 interests me. i wonder if it's common and/or if this would make a suitable podcast topic.

Dan (mypetseahorse)

Omg I always thought I was just a huge bitch but I do my own work during pointless meetings.

Meghan McCarthy

"YOUR FUCKING GRANDMA SMOKES WEED!" bahahahhaa 😄

Jennifer Monsees

Craziest part = B and K meeting and talking about meetings about meetings.
