TToB: People who are open to casual sex have a greater interest in sex with robots. Tough or Bluff???

Comments

That was a big piece of my reasoning as well!

Diana Gibson

Got it! I just figured that the excitement of meeting someone new and the anticipation of "will we, won't we" is all part of the appeal of casual sex.

I guessed bluff because i guess many people who arent into casual sex are probably just too shy or introverted, or dont think the risk of pregnancy and stds are worth it, which arent factors with robots

As a person who is and has always been very open to casual sex, I say the pleasure is in the human interaction. For me, its all about passion, and that's hardly something a robot can offer. Can only speak for myself, of course.

Interesting! I wonder if there's a particular group of people who do have a greater interest in sex with robots. I found everyone's explanations for their votes really interesting.

Itโ€™s BLUFF! Itโ€™s the opposite, people who are open to casual sex have a lesser interest in sex with robots. I wonder why? (DOI: 10.1177/02654075241234377)

This was my thinking too! That those people would be open to a wider range of sexual experiences.

If you examine what casual sex is really about to the people who are into it, I think it's more about experiencing intimacy with a variety of people more than it's about getting off as much as possible. I'm fully enjoying the person (or people) I'm having an experience with. I don't see how a robot could be exciting in that way. There's no one to be intimate with. Maybe I'd try it once out of curiosity...like, if I was the last human on earth and I was really bored.

Jennifer Helm

I would say tough. In my huge extended family (mostly Muslims and some Orthodox Christians) none are open to casual sex with humans or robots. (So this is just a speculation based on most people I know.)

Tatyana

I guessed tough thinking that possibly people interested in having casual sex are more open minded (sexually) on average? This could really go either way though

This is a weird research question. But I voted bluff bc, like Sarah's earlier comment, I suspect that those who are shagging more often with, perhaps, a variety of partners, may be more likely to have their sexual needs met. If there is any comparison between robots and blow-up dolls, I kinda think about who these objects are (stereo)typically marketed to....

Holly DB

I would guess yes - people might believe it's easier to find robot casual sex partners instead of human casual sex partners, so you don't have the same fear of rejection. I also think more people believe they'd be more comfortable exploring their sexual fantasies with casual sex robot partners instead of with another human.

Johannes

I guess bluff because hypothetically there would be more human partners available if casual sex was on the table.
