The Psychology of Elon Musk (Chapter 2 - Childhood)

Comments

When talking about wealthy people we usually fall info the 'success bias'. Sure, he did well. But for every Elon Musk, there are hundreds, thousands who had many ideas exploding in their heads and it just didn't turn out. Also, it's easy to make these moves when you have generational wealth. If things don't turn out, he'd still have great education, and houses, and money, and other rich people who'd help him out.

These deep dives are great

Thanks for confirming - I was curious too!

This is true. Most people don’t talk about how the majority of Twitter users are overseas in places where there isn’t a tradition of independent media.

Keanu. Most liked? Maybe?

Canadian here, I concur regarding the pronunciation for Saskatchewan - you said it right!

It is very disheartening to hear anyone accept that Musk supports free speech, and then argue as if that is the case. He does not. He censors accounts when Turkey, India, or other dictators or right-wing countries ask him, even when Twitter didn't do so in the past! In this way he has censored _more_ than twitter used to. He refuses to do so when a left-wing government, (or a centrist government like the EU) tells him to.

Teo

His father has a very cringey YouTube channel.

Re the grandieusity, his involvement in the Thai cave disaster has every sign of it. He seems to have had an idea...and went to a rescue operation. The conversation about coding took me back to my childhood, and my school experience, that I'm so glad ended. Don't take me back there please. School was stressful for me. If you didn't do well at maths, you would be considered stupid or a loser. The fascination with those skills are so annoying to me. Though, the other thing is that people who are good at them can make it fascinating to listen to. They share their interest and perspective. They inspire. In this episode, I didn't hear about Musk's skills this way. Perhaps the way his genius is brought up is problematic. It's more like hero worshipping. It was an intimidating or triggering way. To my perception. One hour felt short for an episode by the way ♡

And I also have to acknowledge I feel sorry for the women who are around the guy or have been around him in the past. Especially those who have children with him. I'm also sorry for the misogyny women have to endure. It's so fucking messed up and tragic.

Thank you! Good timing after the disgusting tweet by Elon regarding Taylor Swift. Not sure what the best way is to cope with that kind of behavior. It feels like calling it out in a reply tweet doesn't work and there's no effective way of reaching out. I guess I have to work on my empathy for people and just move on even though I feel infuriated by their behavior.
