TToB: Around the globe, 12% of people ages 5-24 had a diagnosable mental disorder in 2019. Tough or Bluff???

This is possible, what with self reporting

I thought it had to be a lot more

It’s TOUGH! The prevalence of mental disorders was 7% for 5-9, 12% for 10-14, and 14% for 15-24. (DOI: 10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2023.5051)

Hm. That global statistic would be pretty low, I suspect , even for pre-pandemic conditions . The commonly defined adolescent developmental stage encompasses ages 10-19, but, really, adolescence in terms of brain development, goes on until age 26, based on how significantly neuroplasticity (pruning) shifts in the mid-20s. But adding the younger, pre-adolescent group to the overall incidence rate, I suspect it to be significantly greater than 1 in 8, and more likely 1 in 4 or 5. Unfortunately so many young people are presenting with MH disorders.

Wonder how many they are overall - including currently undiagnosed people
